Let's be honest though if politicians drive around in 8litre Audi's etc which are fully bulletproof etc and weigh a few tonne, usually taken with them on flights around Europe etc our plastic bags won't change a thing

And if Japan starts killing all the Whales again there will be less industrial sized living hoovers in the sea to suck up the plastics.

I can't remember who but I was listening to something recently and he put it in very simple, basic terms how the whole green agenda for the public is a load of crap. Not that people shouldn't bother but why it is insignificant in the scheme of things. Will see if I can hunt it down

Have tbh you gotta take these things with a pinch of salt but he raised some interesting points

I don't think he has counteracted anything, we are suggesting the same things, hence he's just as boring as me, so trot along Mr Hotpoint.

It's all a load of bolloxs, if the government wanted to do something about it, they could. I'm fed up with seeing their spin. Ban plastic carrier bag sales at supermarkets...simple as that! There are plenty of alternatives, with an initial outlay that will last years. Stop all supermarkets from plastic bagging veg, there is no need for it. You go to other countries you don't see it on the same level. It's lazy policies based around collecting taxes.

Nope (I work in the telecoms sector) .

I just look at the state of play from a science/eng viewpoint,
and ask myself why things are as they are + what high ROI
actions could be taken to make things much better.

Tbh that's why I'm so against a rise on tax even for the NHS. In a nutshell yes it needs fixing but there is too much bollox around it and it could be sorted if there was a genuine will

Again I will have to hunt it down but there was a breakdown of how people don't see what the pay as tax. From residential parking fees to road tax etc.

These figs are made up but it was along the lines of a £30k salary sees and actual income of about £14k or summat after we've paid everything from council tax and all the other bits and bats like mortgage etc

Heard on QI once that the carbon footprint for keeping 2 dogs is greater than running a Toyota landcruiser

A mortgage isn’t a tax ffs. If we want top quality public services, they cost money. All of our public services have been pushed to the brink by Tory austerity cuts. 21k coppers, 10k prison officers, 5k from border force etc etc. The idea that it can all be solved with private sector ‘efficiency’ is nothing more than Tory dogma.

Genuine question for you. Do you think the cuts in coppers is down simply to cuts or the structure in policing where more are employed on higher salaries leaving too little for newer recruits?
