Evening All, there's always a lot of excitement surrounding these games so just wanted to give a neutral perspective.

Every fan of every club will believe their derby is the biggest blah blah etc but I think the North East Derby is the creme de la creme, the passion and pride from normal working class folk is what makes it special. I love the hatred and banter between the two sets of fans as well, it was evident when I visited Sunderland (but spent time in Newcastle) earlier this season.

Every pundit will say the Manchester or North London Derbies are the biggest but I disagree. 10 years ago City wouldn't have been United's biggest rivals and Tottenham wouldn't have been Arsenal's. It's only the recent league position between the clubs that has reignited the rivalry, as derbies they had been dead for nigh on 15/20 years IMO. Newcastle vs Sunderland has always been a big rivalry and standout fixture regardless of league position. When Sunderland lost this derby in August, the mood at the club changed and attendances began to fall, for Newcastle it was the opposite, it was a springboard in what has been a fantastic season for the Magpies, it's a huge derby.

You are bound to disagree but I think Newcastle and Sunderland doing so well can only be good for North East Football, the North West always has and always will grab the headlines and the North East, Midlands and to a far lesser extent the London teams get overlooked in comparison to I feel its important to keep all regions going strong.

My team (Chelsea) has had to fight hard for wins against you and I'm ecstatic we beat Sunderland (home and away) and Newcastle, I wouldn't want to play either of you again and I'd be delighted if we beat Newcastle at home.

I make Newcastle slight favourites and at 5/4 it was too good not to put down on my Sunday accumulator but I'll be hoping for a draw, as Newcastle IMO are in a strong position to get 4th. O'Neill has done a great job at Sunderland thus far and last weekend's result should be overlooked. I am more intrigued by this game than any other this weekend and look forward to watching it. Good luck to both sets of fans and hopefully this game can show the North East is back <ok>

    Some classics in recent years...

I believe this will be a great game, good luck to all true football supporters, no matter red and white, or black and white, may the best team win,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just hope its red and white, but I suppose right now both sets of supporters would take a draw.

That will be why I dream of bungalows then ;)

Totally random and unrelated post, why, at 31, am I amused, watching the Argie footy, Newells Old Boys v Belgrano, and the team are abreviated to NOB v BEL for the score in the corner.

That's Argies for you, nobs and bell's...

On SS this season, Arsenal is shorterned to Arl, not Ars as it was, cos about 50 people complained it was inappropriate.

    I dunno.

If he has money, but has chosen not to spend it, it's Pepe Le Pew.

If his hands are tied, not his fault, as the players at the club, bar RVP, AOC and Szcezney (or whatever it is), are pipe (by top 4 standard..)
