Andy Carroll and Danny Welbeck to lead England attack vs Sweden

Welbeck was asked to lead the line on his own against France on Monday but indications are that the Manchester United striker will be paired with Carroll as Hodgson looks to bolster his forward line.

Hodgson has already spoken of his desire to see England offer more of a threat going forward and in the £35 million Liverpool striker he hopes to cause the Swedes more problems.

Central midfield duo Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker are set to continue in England's engine room, brushing off fears of exhaustion.

Glen Johnson will retain his right back berth despite being on antibiotics for a toe infection.

Hodgson has already said that he feels an organised Sweden side, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, will mean England need to be on their guard.

He said: 'They are organised as a result of years of work based on English coaching.

'Their major weapon is Ibrahimovic - he is one of the best strikers in European football.'

Carroll and Welbeck will be looking to stake a claim for a place for the final group game against Ukraine with Wayne Rooney waiting in the wings for a return.

Rooney serves the last game of his suspension this evening.

All I would say about this is defo need AC up front, at least for his presence in the air, and also I am still worried SP just doesn't have enough stamina.
SP will pick up the first yellow of this game for sure, he just doesn't have the right temperament for my liking.

Unusual. Normally, the best up-front pairing is a big one with a little one, but she's doing fine without the little one, I see....

Zlatan was really p*ssed off with the boot service he got from his colleagues Monday, and told Hamren if she didn't play, nor would he.

 

I see Sweden have Jonas Olsson back for this to counter Carroll, we may find ourselves overrun in midfield with two up front...

You really have to wonder sometimes whether there are just two sexes in this world.
