On the other hand last season we had Bale playing superbly, and he won us the game against Scotland by himself almost. But we just haven't been good enough, losing 6-0 away and 3-0 at home to Serbia just isn't good enough. We should be doing a lot better than we have done and I think we need a change of manager to move forward. Not saying we have a world class group of players but we have more premier league players than we've ever done in the last 20 years and we have 2 players that are

Wales have had lots of superb players down the years but sadly not all in the same team or era.

  4. I never understand how the failed to do anything whilst they had Hughes, Rush and Saunders in the side, especially when a young Ryan Giggs and Gary Speed joined them too!

Yeah I think you have underachieved as opposed to not having the players like Scotland.

Strange one. As you've hinted, Coleman hasn't really done it anywhere except Fulham which was years ago.

Tough coming in after Speed though. With Speed you might just have qualified.

    Sad.

We've always had huge gaps in the squad the players you've listed were great players but had nothing around them. We came within minutes of qualifying under Hughes, I was at the game when we were beating Finland 1-0 if we had hung on Italy had drawn in Azerbaijan of all places and we would have qualified there and then. Finland scored we went into a play off instead and lost to Russia.

A young Giggs and Speed, Hughes, Rush, Saunders + Southall, Van Den Hauw, Ratcliffe.

Sad that those players never got their chance on the world stage.<ok>

  8. Exactly, great basis for a good side. Just needed a solid foundation to support them <ok>

Definitely. His commitment to the national team put players like Giggs to shame. We'll miss his passion and leadership qualities.

Yeah, I think that's whats such a shame about it all. Its always been a 'what if?' hanging over Coleman's head, and I sympathise with him in that regard because no matter what he does, he was always going to be compared unfavourably to Gary Speed.

I do think we should've done much better than we have though. We have a much stronger squad than we've had in the last 20 years. Its harsh because Coleman is a passionate Welshman and took the job at a really tough time but we need to get rid as he's just not good enough and we can't be wasting qualifying campaigns on poor managers.

We've got the basis for a good side IMO, we just need a manager that can organise us and get us playing as an unit.

I think Wales need to push youth now, get a decent striker up front so we at least look a threat.

Better to build from the back, you already have Bale and Ramsey for instance that can score you goals but conceding more than you score brings your defence into the spotlight.

What's happening with Uruguay and WC qualification? I'm lost when it comes to South American teams and their qualification status. All I'm aware of is Brazil and Argentina have already qualified..

Uruguay have to play Jordan in the play off, as they finished level on points with Ecuador but with a worse GD or scored less goals. <ok>
