I've read a lot in the past couple of weeks about how England fail to retain possession, but no-one seems to criticise joe hart's role in this. He's a fine keeper but he does insist on booting it as far as he can every time, which usually means lost possession.

SKD at least tries to play from the back, though in the second half of the season I think we lost our nerve a bit.

Come on England, and hart, keep the ball!

I totes agree, I wish keepers played it short more often. I always do that on Fifa!

Joe Hart can do what he wants if you ask me, best keeper in the world and his distribution can be **** as long as he keeps the ball out of the net!

Distribution is a vital skill for a keeper. Can you imagine Joe Hart making a quick thrown pass to feet to launch a counter attack?

On Fifa, you vew the pitch from above and spot gaps and runs before any human being on tthe pitch would. Then with some deft fingerwork (I'm useless at at it) you can execute the perfect ball. Because you see everything happening, it's a lot easier than it is in real life to anticipate how you are going to play your teammate in before you actually recieve the ball. In reality, if Hart went short, the defence would give it to the midfield and more often than not, one of them would loose posession. This generation of English players don't do possession football.

We do have players that can play keep ball and wait for the chance to spring forward in the Premier League. Trouble is so many are not English..

    It's culture
Adkins has changed it at Southampton. Ever since the 0-0 draw with Brighton he took the Poyet tactic of keeping the ball at the back and frustrating the oppo. Slowly over the last two seasons this has steadily evolved to a good mix of long kicks to Rickie and short to Jose depending on the other teams set-up and the game situation.
SKD used to get roundly lambasted for his distribution throughout and if anything has improved significantly since his arrival at st Mary's its his ability with the football.

Can or will Hodgson change Joe Hart? Not so sure but without Carroll England's hoofs are always going to be more like boomerangs

Joe Hart has got to be one of the most overrated keepers in history. He is nothing special in the slightest. His distribution is horrendous and his keeping isn't great either. He has the luxury of playing for two sides who have extremely solid defenses that make him look a lot better than he really is
