Nice one FIFA, not that we liked you in the first place.

How's it any different to the England v Netherlands game a few years a go that was against racism. England had a picture or message on their shirt while the Netherlands wore a completely different kit. Surely the players should be allowed to wear poppies.

"Such initiatives would open the door to similar initiatives from all over the world, jeopardising the neutrality of football."

God imagine that, using football to promote charities and good causes.

Just as well they've said that so we can protect the "neutral" sponsors flogging their cheap crap from these blatant initiatives.

I can see why they are doing this, if England play Iraq for example.... The servicemen were killed in a very dodgy war and it brings politics into football....
I personally think its wrong and the fat cats at FIFA are lying cheating greedy scum......

"Football's world governing body decrees that shirts should not carry political, religious or commercial messages."

Where exactly does that leave most national emblems on the shirts, sponsors logos on the shirts, and dare I say it black armbands for people outside football?

The only explanation I see is that as it's a charity, it is considered a business, so that would give a commercial image.

As I said above, what about the England v Netherlands game and the Kick Racism out of football? Surely that has the same issue. Unless it is initiated by FIFA.

Wearing the poopies in English football hasn't caused a problem, so why would it in international games?

The whole entire situation is crazy the Poppy isn't just supported in the UK, so well done FIFA offending every commonwealth country too. Maybe twatter and his cronies should look at abolishing racism which exists in two of their 'golden' countries. Spanish fans at the Bernabeau making monkey noises at black players and Russia has a great reputation at race relations extremely anti semitic on top of that too, great place to hold a world cup.

Common sense prevails (slightly) BUT it should not have come to this since when should it take royalty AND a Prime Minister to get involved???

    Fifa - OUT!

Good to hear. Poppies on the black armbands seems like an odd compromise to the poppy on the shirt. It will be part of the kit on the night so the poppy may as well be on the shorts!
