Saw her at Cambridge Corn Exchange a few years ago Tony - you could not take your eyes off her for as minute - she was (and is) truly beautiful with an amazing voice too.
Was never a massive fan of his, though I appreciated his talent (at times) saw him live at the UEA doing his solo stuff as well with the Libertines (never really got into Babyshambles and he was an absolute bell piece when I last saw him at UEA) but I have to say that he has created some great songs and songs that will mean something to a lot of people of our(my) generation. I have to say that 'Can't stand me now' is one that will always remind me of my adolesence and it's clear that even if you don't like his music or any of the bands he was in that there will probably be some killer songs that you will like or will register with you and atleast appreciate even if you don't like them all.
Absolutely mate, very well put I defy anyone with any kind of appreciation of "good music" to tell me that this isn't a beautiful, beautiful song
I never said they were, but most bands release singles. I can't find any evidence online now though, so maybe I was mistaken. Apparently a band called "The Colour" did record a charity single for us, probably a sign of how bad times were! Also, Myleene Klass was mentioned on someone's link, here's the evidence: please log in to view this image
Everyone moans at footballers being not very good role models, Docherty has had about 15 million "second chances" and should be still inside now! I don't care what he can write, the bloke is a total knob-head!
So you've not listened to any of his music then, and your opinion is purely based on the usual media drivel - thanks for clearing that up Oh, and his name is Doherty for the record, no C in his name ironically Why on earth any artist should be seen as a role model is quite frankly beyond me, absolute rubbish of the very highest order. Inspirational yes, but role models for our children? Give over!! The Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks, Led Zep, Hendrix etc etc were all off their heads 90% of the time and should probably also have been in prison for the substances they consumed in your world - didn't stop them producing some of the greatest music of all time between them did it? Oh, and did you not read my little secret about lots of your favourite jazz artists? Fan of Billie Holiday were you by any chance? Guess what?
Munky, I do not live in a bubble, you've not told me anything I do not already know, of course I've listened to him, and read the lyrics of every single one of his songs! As a published poet myself, I have a strong interest in all forms of poetry, I'm talking about the man, not his talent, if you want an insight, seek out the opinion of Carl Barrett!
Not if you're famous. It's only illegal if you haven't been pictured taking them in a tabloid newspaper.
Carl Barat* You did talk about Pete Doherty's talent in the first post you made regarding him. To be honest if he was releasing the music in the 60's he would be seen as a hero, along with everyone at that point. But in this era a talented musician can't take drugs without being in front of every tabloid paper in the UK and lambasted for it. The thing I don't get is how everyone hammered Amy Winehouse for doing drugs, thought it would be alright to put her private life in every newspaper and then when she dies from it the papers start lauding her. The media do my head in, not once did they try and help her get off drugs when she was alive. Rant over, but the same thing will happen to Pete Doherty and only than he will be labelled "talented" rather than "cokehead".
It's just the non-taxable drugs which are illegal, others like alcohol, cigarettes etc which are taxed to the hilt by the government are absolutely fine - despite being responsible for ruining/ending 1000 times more lives every year than the illegal ones do
I've never said Pete was an angel, a role model or even a particularly nice chap because from all accounts he can be a serious arsehole when he wants to be - but then can't we all? My issue was this lazy tag he gets of being a "talentless waste of space" just because takes drugs and the media find him an easy target because he clearly isn't. Certainly in my and many other people's eyes he is incredibly talented and has brought lots of joy and emotion to people's lives with the music he has written over the past decade or so. I see your spelling of Barat has already been picked up, and to be honest I'm not sure that's a great example you use because withou Pete we'd have never heard of Carlos and he certainly would never have found the fame and success that he has on his own. Didn't realise you were a published poet though fella, that's very impressive and my new thing learn from today, and apologies for patronizing you by assuming you'd never heard his music or read his lyrics
The Media are one of the biggest problems with this country. It's ranges from a load of things from the fact they drone on about recession rather the talk about we can improve the economy right the way through to mass hysteria of the day whether it'll be the Millennium Bug/Phone Hacking/Guncrime/*****'s/Dangerous Dogs/SARS/Terrorism/BSE/Chemical Weapons, what is even worse is they fact they think we all give the **** about some orange slag who would most probably **** off a dog if it meant getting on the front cover of Heat magazine. Rant Over!
Oh yeah agreed, nicely put haha. I don't like politicians but they can't do right due to media, the hacking scandal was a disgrace. They just want a good story no matter what.
Seriously though does anyone give a toss about Hugh Grants phone been hacked? Then for months afterwards we see him on the news playing the victim and taking the moral high ground in the enquires, I feel sorry for the family of the poor girl who was murdered etc, but that oxygen thief Grant should of been finished when he was caught with his pants down with that prozzer along Sunset Boulevard in the 90's. Just seen that Grant supports Fulham that's a real embarrassing fan!
