    We are taking collective action

    Dear Terence,

We made a pledge to communicate more effectively with you and when we did so, we were aware this must be the case through thick and thin, in the bad times as well as the good. That is why it is important I write to you now, when things are tough and many of you will be feeling frustrated with recent results.

You deserve to know what we are thinking and what we are doing to address our current situation, to arrest this poor run of form and turn things around for our club.

There is no hiding from the fact that this has been a very disappointing start to our Premier League campaign, and a painful early exit from a cup competition that we were determined to give everything in this year. We apologiseto you for this.

After six league games the truth is we have not achieved the points that any of us had hoped and expected we would do.

None of us can, or will, shirk the responsibility for this situation. Now is the time for collective action, and for us to find solutions to the problems rather than allow ourselves to be consumed by them.

It is important to state that we bear collective responsibility for our position in the table. Identifying the problems in order to find the solutions is crucial, but we are not in the business of apportioning blame. We are a team, from the boardroom to the boot room, and we will respond like one.

So we have sat down as a collective – myself with Steve and his coaching team, and Steve with his players – to discuss the concerns and to look for the solutions together.

Whilst we are all unhappy, we must not panic or make rash decisions. We should not forget we are still relatively early into the season with lots of games to go and points to play for. Whilst you may be tired of hearing this, I believe, as we have said from the start, all of this rebuilding and reshaping isn’t something that can happen overnight; it will take time to see the benefit of the changes we made during the summer.

I will repeat what I have said on a number of occasions before - I have complete faith that what Steve and his team are implementing will give us the best possible chance of success as a club.

We firmly believe there is the quality we need within this group of players, however we all know that what has to improve are the results, which will then breed belief and confidence. As you would expect, Steve and his staff are working very hard both collectively and individually to reproduce and improve on all the qualities we saw in the performances against Southampton, Manchester United and Arsenal.

We recognise that you will be frustrated and of course, as people who invest heavily – financially and emotionally – in this club, you have the right to express your dissatisfaction at the results, as you have done on recent matchdays. We deserved that criticism and reaction. But you can also play a huge part in helping the players to fight their way out of our current predicament.

We regularly talk about the importance of confidence and the momentum that a single victory can bear in turning around the fortunes of a team. To turn things around our players need to be brave – brave on the ball, demand the ball, and attack with courage and conviction, without fear. I hope those of you attending on Saturday, and at future games, home or away, will really get behind the team and help give them the confidence to play and express themselves the way we know they can.

We don’t have the time nor the inclination to feel sorry for ourselves. That would not serve us well. We are all in this together and we will get out of it together as a team. We view you, our supporters, as an important part of that team. Now is the time to show determination, resilience and fight and together, over the coming weeks, change the course of this season for the better.

    Thank you for your support.

    Lee Charnley

    Managing Director

Not really sure what to make of it, to be honest im actually glad there is a bit of communication as i was expecting it to be lacking giving the results we have had lately.

I'm happy that there's communication and they've not gone and hid completely.

However this email is so general and vague it could just be a compilation of losing manager post game interviews. There is no substance to it and no hints as to how they are looking to rectify the recent performances.

I would prefer if these emails were sent with more emphasis on the football side of things rather than the boardroom point of view.

I don't give a **** about all this communication ****e. There is very little they can do to turn this around because they blew their big chance in the summer when they frittered the money on the wrong types. I knew this and said it at the time. Most did. The defence and lack of character throughout the team was a major problem. As was the lack of PL knowledge. We chose to ignore the obvious. It is now very difficult for the manager to sort that out. If he wanted to communicate and not hide, he should have said:

"Look as a football board, we've bollocksed this right up. We have completely ignored our obvious deficiencies and spent the money unwisely. The players we have bought have good quality, but they were not what was desperately needed. We will learn from our mistakes and set about putting it right in January so the lads we did buy are given a fair crack of the whip and grounding to work from with ample support. It would be great if you stick with us until then and we will try to put it right"

But they won't will they, they'll skirt around it as he has done. There is no guarantee about putting it right. No comfort that they actually can see what the issue is. It is not commercially or for the sake of squad harmony correct, to actually come out and identify the problem. No you do that behind closed doors. Fair enough, but don't bother putting this **** out.

I personally think our club badly needs a proper fixer (not like that Sebb/Heed). They need a football person who knows what they are talking about to go in and tell a few home truths. I couldn't give a bollocks if it is done privately or openly (though not airing your laundry is always advisable in most cases). All this football board bollocks and so on is a pile of ****e. It is quite simple. Rip the ****ing model up, and put a proper football one in place where the emphasis is on building a team and a squad to win football matches.

I don't know if you do that in an advisory role or something of that nature. McClaren is a coach, Carr is a scout, Charnley is a ****wit. Don't hand the reins to them. Go to Sir Alex Ferguson or someone of that nature and say "Come sort this **** out man, I'll give you x amount" It would be money well spent.

He is basically worried that people will stop going to games and is worried that those that still go will boo the players. **** off Charnley.

As I have always said I'm not sure why people want to be communicated with. I am not sure what it serves. However if you do want communication, surely this general vague series of statements issued as some kind of rallying call is not what you were after? If it is then I worry about our supports needyness <laugh>

Feed me it straight up if you really have to say anything but actions speak louder than words. We are still making the same mistakes.

The only thing I would say is I think it is futile ranting about how evil they are. Some may think the intention of Charnley etc is bad. I probably thought that was the case previously base don us being run like a 2 bit 2nd hand shop. However having witnessed us spend 50m in the summer, I've come to the conclusion that it is not a lack of goodwill or good intentions now, its an abundance of stupidity.

The fans will turn up, roar when the whistle blows, cheer on that first foray towards Chelsea's end, then when we're 2-0 down inside 20 mins they'll be fed up. The misplaced passes, the lack of conviction, these facets that bear the hallmark of a traditional Toon display will be back and the fans will become downhearted. All of which would have been eminently avoidable if the fcking clown that is Little Mike had paid an extra £2m for Austin instead of Mitroviolence, or spent £9m on Payet instead of £13m on Thauvin, and sent Willo/Colo packing, replaced by a PL quality centre back to play with Mbemba - Lovren, Williams, Shawcross, Tompkins - we could afford every one of them, but didn't.

This is all Charnley, the tag Little Mike is very befitting, because he's a clueless fcking lapdog desperate to keep the job he so badly doesn't deserve.

I'm not sure I'm that keen on these emails. Occasionally fine, these regular rally calls look a little amateur if you ask me. Having said that would have looked very poor if they had gone quiet after these bad results.

We need to buy British in this next window.

I see Graham Carr was in France last weekend watching Lacazette. I really hope they aren't thinking about it in January. Enough of these ****ing foreign players.

Just a bland corporate statement really, the CEO sending out a missive to the shareholders admitting that the quarterly performance has been poor but we will pull our socks up and do better.

Just like most things in life, people have a right old whinge when communication isn't forthcoming as they would like it, and when communication is forthcoming and they don't like the content, have another good old whinge.

There is a simple solution - don't read the communications and you wont be pissed off with what you're reading in the comforting knowledge that you're ignoring Penfold.

Exactly why I find all this pointless - literally. I don't get the needy nature of the fans at times. All I want is to win some games and see some effort. Both are lacking.

I am disturbed by our transfer policy too.

I could never get pissed off with him sending me an email, unless it was to tell me Haidara is our left back for the next 10 years <laugh>
