Hardly been a fans favorite as of late, but had a decent game at the weekend, and will probably retain his place.

But has your opinion changed on him? Will be become a regular?

AHMED Elmohamady insists he is beginning to reap the rewards from his Premier League education.

The Egyptian winger impressed in Sunderland’s maiden victory of the campaign against Stoke City on Sunday after returning to the starting line-up following a two-game absence.

Elmohamady was always going to face a steep cultural and footballing learning curve to get to grips with the Premier League after initially moving on loan from Egyptian outfit ENPPI last season.

In the 24-year-old’s year-and-a-bit at the Stadium of Light, he has suffered from indifferent patches of form, even though he did enough to earn a permanent switch to Sunderland during the summer.

But Elmohamady feels he learns lesson from every Premier League outing and claims he is a much-improved player to the one who first joined Sunderland.

Elmohamady told the Echo: “I’ve been here for a year now and every game I learn something new.

“That’s why I’m a better player than last season and I think we’re seeing that with my performances. It was great for me to come back in the team and for us to win on Sunday as well.

“I’ve got to try to keep my place though.

“I work hard in training and during the games because I want to play every game.”

There has never been any doubt in my mind of the lads ability as a winger, fast, strong and very good in the air. His final ball is some times suspect but then again that will come with games! I think he will be a very important player this season and seasons to come.

He had a good game Saturday and he has all the physical attributes to succeed (pace and aerial ability) in the EPL. I also think he's a good outlet, especially away from home.

Unfortunately he still reminds me of a headless chicken at times but I'm hoping he will improve over the coming months,

Good back up for Sess on the right. The one thing he has is bags of pace, we only really have 3 players like that: Elmo, Sess, Ricco, and pace in the premier league wins games.

His crossing can be good (larsson goal vs Liverpool) and it can be terrible.

I thought he played very well when he came on against Chelsea at full back and at worst he is a decent bench option for anywhere down the right hand side. I absolutely detest the way every goal kick goes to him though as even if he wins it the ball generally comes straight back.

I do like the lad and his attitude and more than any player in our side I want him to succeed.

He's got the ability to build on, and he's building. Keep at it Elmo. I think he'll be a good player. Stick him on his own at the AoL with a dustbin and a bag of balls and practice till he can hit it every time - his delivery will improve. It needs work but the lad's a worker. No worries.

Not sure myself. He seems to make a beeline to the corner flag with very little end product. Yes he has the pace and with a little coaching and encouragement (and confidence) may improve to cut inside and deliver decent service.

I thought he had his best game for us on Sunday. with regard to his crossing, yes it could be better but sometimes it takes two to make a good cross, the crosser and someone being in a decent position to get on the end of it. There was a few times he got to the bi line and got a cross in that was cleared away by stokes defence, however if you looked where sess and bendtner were they were no where near to where any decent cross would be put, they were both 20+ yards away from goal. This is where playing 442 with two proper forwards make crosses into the box pay. One running to the front post and dragging a defender or two with him then another forward goind round the back, then its your central midfielders that should be on the edge of the box for rebounds and clearances (where gardner got his goals from last year) Why we don't score many with catts and colback(henderson last year) when we've broke wide and got forward, catts n colback are still standing in the centre circle.

Getting to the by-line isn't a bad thing though. It means when your cross comes in defenders are facing their own goal and it's harder for them to clear. They daren't lash at it because they can't see where the on-coming attackers are - a rebound might go in your net. I don't mind him heading for the by-line, but he needs to improve the accuracy of his final ball - oh for Stanley Matthews to show him how.

I've been a critic recently, but if he plays like he did on Sunday on a regular basis I'll be won over.

Yes he did look a lot better. The guy who sits next to me is probably his greatest critic but even he was saying that Elmo was having a good game. Believe me after the things he has said in the past that was praise indeed.

I like him, he needs a little more direction but his pace is phenomenal and no doubt with the right amount of training and gametime he will be a top, top player soon enough <ok>

I like Elmo because I think his attitude is fantastic and attitude counts for so much. He seems to want to play for Sunderland and is happy here. Add in his natural pace and ability along with a willingness to learn and he could well become the real deal.

He needs games but e also needs to be used properly, I think he will be, and we could have a very good full back and top winger.
