Morning all and hope you're feeling better soon elland.

There's something that's been on my mind since Wednesday game and that's who of the older players would we need to keep if we were to be relegated ?

Football squads (groups) always need experienced voices in the dressing room and whilst we've some great youngsters we'd also need senior pros to set the tone.

    So should we keep players with virtually no sell on value like;

    Cooper
    Ayling
    Forshaw
    Klich

surely they'd be invalubale in getting us back up should the worst happen ?

In the Championship, I'd keep all 4. Their experience would be a massive advantage

Definitely keep all those four, possibly Dallas if he fully recovers. For me it would then be who we could keep out of Gnonto, Joffy, Summerville, Gyabi, Greenwood and even Drameh. Keep all and I’d fancy our chances, Aaronson, Meslier and Adams would definitely be off, not sure about Roca and Rodrigo.

We might even see some use out of Firpo at that level if he could remain injury free. Not sure what coach we’d attract though

Agreed and that's why we shouldn't be making decisions on those 4 until we know the outcome of this season. However if we can guarantee our PL survival then that changes everything and we should allow at least 2 or maybe even 3 of those players to move onto pastures new.

Klich is actually wanted by other clubs, the others not so much.
But I'm afraid they are getting to old even for the championship

You probably don't agree but Marsche is probably the best coach we could get to take us back up. That in itself might be a good reason for sticking with him this season should we fall into the relegation places.

From what I've seen his style/methods would most likely suit the Championship where players aren't as technically proficient, or as pacy on the counter attacks.

For me a lot depends on what salaries theylll want. If they’re willing to play for championship wages maybe keep but if they’re holding out for their current pl rates then get rid. There will be many 31 or 32 year olds available

I’d rather get Bielsa back. My issue with both would be the Championship is probably there level.

I was just on the Newcastle board, reading comments on how Eddie has improved certain players just by playing to their strengths in the right position and with his coaching. It took him a few months which is understandable but has Jesse managed to actually improve a single Leeds player in 12 months?

If you were sensible you’d have relegation wage drop clauses already written in ;)

Also, no other PL club would offer them a contract

We should have grabbed Howe when he was available but doubt the package we’d be offering would attract him

I think re who would we need in the championship… the management have to take a view if they can still do it on the pitch. Wise old voices in the dressing room are useful but how many and at what salary demands? The quality is a step or two below the Prem but is a long and physically demanding league. They’d need to be worth their places on merit. Open to debate, but agree there’s no resale value to them, so delaying any decision on them, if we can, makes sense.

Newcastle will become a formidable force possibly the best team in europe soon, as In my humble opinion Howe is one of the best coaches on the planet, coupled with if he needed it, an almost a bottomless pot of gold, what he did at Bournemouth was incredible, alright saying pep or klopp are the best, but how would they do with no funds and bang average players.
    Good morning all
And hoping you feel better soon Elland.

Only in the interests of balance. Howe has had 14 months at Newcastle and marsch 10 at Leeds. Interestingly Newcastle were gash under Eddie for two months until a flukey win at Elland road and a significant spend in the January window helped kick start their season.

Last year they were functional, this year they’re playing some good stuff, built on well organised defensive foundations… and the small matter of a net spend of £200m+ since he arrived.

As for improving players? It’s often hard to tell… players often look better in a winning team.

I really like Howe. Always have, comes across well and, bar the relegation season at Bournemouth, his record is exceptional. But we’re not comparing apples with apples here.

That sounds like a return to the bad old days of picking up jouneymen footballers from the lower leagues.

Didn't we have over 30 of them at one point ?

Interesting Norwich kept all of last seasons squad except four and now they’re struggling and manager sacked. So no guarantees by keeping your old guard either. Also maybe Marsch could be handy recruiting in the championship and coaching. After all Bielsa was brilliant in championship but average in pl

Morning all. Hope you’re feeling better Ell. I wouldn’t keep Forshaw whatever division we’re in. Waste of a wage and a squad place. If we went down I’d probably go with Cresswell ahead of Cooper.
