It really don't bother me about the voting age, to be fair I was going in pubs at 16, and I never got stopped, just had to keep my head down if the old bill turned up. I was paying tax at 16. The only thing negative I can think of is it will leave 16-17 years old open to manipulation on social media, as I suspect they are the bigger users within any modified voting age, and kids like doing things in packs lol, they will not be so independent in thought like you and me, but maybe I'm not being fair to them and things will play out totally differently. As it stands though I think Labour are not going to get the outcome they think they will get by this change, and it could well completely blow up in their face.

There are pros and cons no doubt but look at the rabid idiots in their 40's and 50's who are influenced by social media. No difference really, if anything I think a lot of kids realise it's all bollox and they just have fun with it whereas adults buy in completely as if they are in the know.

When I was 15 was drinking in The Victoria Inn on Manchester Rd in Accrington and we were having a lock-in ... was a banging on the door and two uniformed came in and one was reaching for his notebook when some silver haired bloke at a table nearby said '"alright lads?" ... they acknoedged him turned around and left...

I turned to my 15 year old cousin quizzically... "Chief Constable of Accy" she said ...

    Those were the days <laugh>

I use to love those days, could drink and smoke and no one gave a ****. We've just turned into a bunch of compensation hunting, health conscious fannies these days. Just let people be ffs, as long as they aint causing trouble. I'm just fed up with everything we do being questioned all the time and new laws being contantly written. Yet the laws that actually need dealing with aren't.

I worry about what it’s going to mean for the kids education at school. We’ve seen in Universities that they’re breeding grounds for politics and professors/lecturers don’t shy away from projecting their thoughts on to the students.

Is the same thing about to happen in our mainstream schools, with teachers manipulating the students in their last years when a GE is coming up. Actual studies not getting the focus that it should do.

It's a fair point and not one I'd not thought of being an oldie now, but yeah I can see that happening. I remember when I first left school (15), even though I couldn't vote, adults (middle aged +) were trying to influence my way or thinking in regards to politics and unions, I took no notice of them of course. :bandit:

I think you forget you are one of those 40's and 50's now as for being rabid, well that's a matter of opnion. <laugh>

    Only joking mate.

I suppose people buy into stuff dependent on how their area is run. I saw all the stuff that kicked off in Essex last night, as it's not exactly one of my favourite counties. Now even if a smidgen of their claims were true, what would we be like if that was on our doorstep. Some of the reactions towards police were totally out of order, and was just pure thuggery, it does not mean though we should ignore those that do protest peacefully...people generally protest for a reason and it's because they are not being listened to.
