I came across this recently, and it should at least make us ponder. REFUGEES. They have no need of our help So do not tell me Those haggard faces could belong to you or I. Should life have dealt them a different hand We need to see them for who they really are Chancers and scroungers With bombs up their sleeves Cut throats and thieves They are not Welcome here. We should make them Go back to where they come from They cannot Share our food Share our homes Share our countries Instead let us Build a wall to keep them out It is not okay to say these people are just like us A place should only belong to those who are born there Do not be so stupid to think that The world can be looked at another way. Now read it again from the bottom.
https://www.theguardian.com/politic...-phone-roaming-charges-post-brexit-paper-says Roaming charges ban won't apply to UK travellers in EU. Hardly surprising really...
...and of course another hit to your average individual.... i bet one of hundreds of little things the BREXITERS never discussed openly
And after last night's shameful performance in Westminster, I suspect it won't be long before you have to pay them in Scotland too...
Isn't Hunt the **nt currently over in America finalising some sort of deal to allow them access to buy?
This whole thing now has a momentum which is dangerously reminiscant of dictatorships of the past, with the House of Lords being warned it will face calls for its abolition if it tries to block Brexit - have we come down to the stage where parts of our political constitution can be bullied in this way ?
Not that I particularly care about those in the HoL - but wouldn't they have to ratify that themselves?
They would, indeed, have to ratify their own abolition - just as the monarchy would. All constitutional changes have to go through the HoL. Like you I have never cared about them until now - but, whether elected or not, they are a part of the government of the UK and have the power to block all legislation. Interference with their right to do this in a democratic manner, through threats or whatever, constitutes a very serious attack on our democratic system.
I am not sure that being elected to the HoL would be a good thing for democracy. At least we have crossbenchers who are not beholden to any party, whereas if elected they would be tied to parties. These members can do what they think is right for the country, not just be whipped into taking a party line.
I have been reading that George Osbourne has been saying that the battle to regain moderation within the Tory party has not yet begun. Not sure that his idea of moderation is quite the same as mine. There is plotting afoot I think. The Labour Party is totally split and could face going the same way as they did in Scotland. Will this whole business create a realignment of UK politics over time when the centre ground will take back control? There were several attempts to move Maggie on, but eventually the moderates did get rid of her. History tells us that it will happen, but quite what state the country will be in by then is not easy to predict.
Thought so - but this begs the question - who was making the threat and how could they carry it out? Or was it just more Tory bluster?
If the Labour Party does disintegrate then the Tories will not be long in following them - the two parties have always retained their solidarity because of the 'other'. In reality they need each other like Celtic and Rangers do. We could be seeing the death throes of 2 party politics in the UK.
I do tend to agree cologne, which is why I asked the question. There was a similar realignment when the Social Democrats looked as if they were going to sweep the old guard out of the way back in the early 1980s, but they didn't get quite enough MPs to join with them to make the challenge long lasting. It seems bizarre that MPs should be whipped into voting for something that they believe will be bad for the people who put them in Westminster and the country as a whole, so given time maybe we will see change.
