Being a mod must be a horrible and time consuming job. Whatever these two do is fine by me, I'll always give them the benefit of the doubt.

Cheers Aussie, that's pretty much it.

I apologise to those of you that think certain threads are closed too prematurely. I personally have quite a strong stomach and there isn't a lot that can offend me. That's one of the reasons why I was a bit reluctant to take on the role of Mod at first. But what I've come to realise is that it's not what I find personally acceptable that matters. For instance someone who, let's say works on a building site will have their own perception of what's normal and acceptable as opposed to someone who works in a library. Somewhere in between we have to try and strike a balance in the way Aussie has stated above.
We do try to offer a valid reason as much as possible without making it personal, and realise that this won't be enough to placate everyone. But then that goes with the territory.

I'm very sorry that my response on here is very brief, but the timing for all of this now couldn't be much worse. I have some personal family issues to tend to over the next couple of days, so I may only get on here very sporadically today and not at all tomorrow. I will answer any further questions pertaining to thread closures or any other matters then.

    Cheers all, Nines.

Serious issues aside, there's some classic comedy gold on this thread.

I've got an image of DT squinting at a tipex - smeared screen trying to read the responses!

And you had me setting them off as well.

They must have, you're always hearing that they've formed another picket line. Surely they're not taking them down after it's been on the news?

Roy of the Rovers was alright, but I was more a Valiant, Battle and Action fan. I was more interested in "Gott in himmel!", "Schweinhund!" and "No, no....aiiiieeeeeee!".... and that was just my marriage to the original holder of the title 'Mrs Uber'.

Our mods, Roller & Nines, perform an excellent and commendable service here for the common good.

I guess this alternative approach could always be introduced for habitual offenders?

From Wikipedia: "Stocks are devices used in the medieval times for torture, public humiliation, and corporal punishment. The stocks partially immobilized its victims and they were often exposed in a public place such as the site of a market to the scorn of those who passed by. Since the purpose was to punish offenders against the standards of conduct of the time anybody could assault, revile or aim filth at the victim."
