The variable prices for tickets discussion gave me an idea. As we're not in the PL the media coverage we get is minimal, so why doesn't the club agree a sponsorship deal for the shirts where the money given by the sponsor is connected to the amount of shirts with their name on that are sold? Taking the existing model, including a flat sponsorship fee the shirts cost about £40. So why not charge say £35 for a sponsored shirt, and £45 for a sponsorless one, with the sponsor paying the extra £10? The actual prices need calculating to make sure the club isn't out of pocket, but then you enable more fans to buy the shirt by having the cheapest option at a lower price than you do now, as well as making it so that people like me who won't buy anything advertising our current sponsor are prepared to spend a bit more. I don't know if we only have the main kit sponsored now, but when it was totesport it was plastered all over the training kit as well, so you could apply the same principle there. Also, as there's no difference to the club in terms of revenue from one deal to the next, you'd have to set a "base" price of £45 (using the figures above) and give the sponsors the option of paying to a higher level, say telling the club to offer the sponsored shirt at £35 and paying £15 on top rather than £10 so that the club's revenue increases. Don't forget, it would be in the sponsor's interests to reduce the shirt for fans, because if all they do is offer to make it up to £50 on the sponsored shirts without making them cheaper all that will happen is fans will buy the non-sponsored one and they'll be left with no advertising out and about.
