DYER UPDATE Posted on: Tue 16 Aug 2011 Head Physio Nigel Cox has told www.qpr.co.uk that he expects R's midfielder Kieron Dyer to return to training in 'days rather than weeks' after he suffered a foot injury in our opening game of the season against Bolton on Saturday. After only seven minutes of action Dyer was stretchered off with what appeared to be a serious injury, but Cox told www.qpr.co.uk: "The early indication we are getting is that the injury certainly isn't as serious as first feared. But you can have that feeling with ligament damage as well. "At first we thought it was a fracture but we had an X-ray on the day and an MRI as well, and that's shown there is no bone fracture. "But the foot is a very dexterous part of the body and there are a tremendous amount of ligaments involved. "We still had concerns that an important ligament - which can be a debilitating injury if missed - was damaged, so we had a further X-ray on Monday to rule that particular ligament out. Thankfully, that came back clear and there is no Lisfranc injury." With more serious problems eliminated, Cox is confident Dyer will be available for selection before too long. "At this stage it looks like a soft tissue ligament injury," he said. "There has been a lot of swelling and Kieron is still in some discomfort, but it is moving forward quite rapidly. "We are cautiously optimistic at this stage. If it does prove to be what we believe it is, we are looking at him returning to training in days rather than weeks."
Good to hear, he was a great player years ago but injuries have wrecked his career. I feared a metatarsal break at first so this is a huge plus to see a player like him hopefully back in the PL in a few weeks
Good news, but sometimes a bad sprain or soft tissue damage can take as long as a break to come back from. I sprained my ankle last summer and couldn't play for two months, and even then it wasn't right. That said, I wasn't in the capable hands of a Premiership physio. Still reckon November's a good shout though Cannock.
I broke my wrist a few years ago, and was very worried. However, the doctor reassured me that I'd soon be able to play the piano. That was nice - I couldn't do so before....
