there are lots of ****s in football...Drogba is not one...like a lot of footballers from poorer backgrounds he does give a lot and do a lot to charity...Essien, Ekotto, Fowler, King, Defoe, Adebayor, Toure, (I obviously know more about spurs players)... the issue of diving is annoying...but is insignificant when terms like **** are being dished out. Drogba cheated at times but so do all footballers...diving is highlighted but claiming corners, goal kicks, throw ins etc. when you know you kicked it out is cheating too and leads to wrong decisions which affect matches. Drogba was an outstanding player especially in big matches...only saw him in person once in a 4-4 draw with spurs...am pleased to say I saw one of the best strikers in the past 25 years play live. Glad he is putting his money to a good use
Not hypocrisy at all, I will openly criticise any of our players for diving. Ashley Young has been guilty of it in the past, as has Januzaj this season. I think there should be a dive/play acting panel of ex referees that sits down every Monday morning and 3 game bans should be handed out to any player that the panel believes has dived over the weekend. That would soon sort the problem out
Drogba was a quality player, but one of the best in the last 25 years? He was along way off being that, he doesn't even average a goal every 2 games. Even if we're just talking about the PL, players like Shearer, Henry and Van Nistlerooy where far superior to Drogba
Agreed. The stat watching twat hasn't got the foggiest about the beautiful game - he just said Drogba wasn't one of the best ever PL strikers.
The players you named were also on the list of best, nobody said he was better than them, just that he was among them. Your post is just crap, to say "HE WAS NOT ONE THE BEST IN THE LAST 25 YEARS" is frankly, cretinous.
Seriously mate you're wasting your time, he'll just bring out his stat book. He thinks Zola and Bergkamp (bare in mind these are both not out and out strikers) were overrated because their goal scoring records don't match with those classed as the best.
christ! Go buy a clue...... Ruud van Tapinrooy. Anyone can stand in the box waiting for Beckham to curl the ball onto the end of their foot. Henry, now that was a player. Drogba was a player for the big games! Scored in all 7 Wembley cup matches he appeared in. Scored in the Champions League final 2 time golden boot winner. (Since, you love stats so much, look up how many RVN got, heres a hint, its less than Didier)
Do you realise how many top strikers there have been over the last 25 years across Europe and South America? I was just highlighting that he's not even amongs the best to have played in the PL, as the 3 I mentioned where a lot better, and there goals prove they where. Drogba doesn't even average a goal every 2 games, so he's along way behind the very best
Won't say a bad word against Van Nistelrooy. Best goalscorer I've ever had the pleasure of seeing, Henry likewise. They are the best strikers the PL has ever seen along with Shearer AND Drogba. This guy just doesn't like Drogba, had this discussion before.
No worries mate, the only stat that I would refer to is. How many times have RvN Shearer Henry and Drogba, **** a brick when confronted by an opponent Drogba 0 The rest ? I'll rest my case.
So much more to Drogba than just goalscoring aswell. Hold up play, power, aerial threat, excellent movement. He was also unplayable and could defend brilliantly when needed at the back.
Van Nistlerooy 347 goals in 589 Drogba 256 goals in 582 As you can see Van Nistlerooy has a miles superior goals per games ratio, and has a far more impressive list of individual honours, with 3 CL top goal scorer awards, and a top goal scorer of the decade award. Drogba wasn't in his class Van Nistlerooy individual honours Eredivisie Topscorer (2): 1998–99, 1999–2000 Dutch Footballer of the Year (2): 1999, 2000 Premier League Player of the Month (3): December 2001, February 2002, April 2003 UEFA Champions League Most Valuable Striker (1): 2001–02 UEFA Champions League Topscorer (3): 2001–02, 2002–03, 2004–05 Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year (2): 2001–02, 2002–03 ESM Team of the Year (1): 2001–02 IFFHS World's Top Goal Scorer of the Year (1): 2002 PFA Fans' Player of the Year (1): 2002 PFA Players' Player of the Year (1): 2001–02 PFA Team of the Year (2): 2001–02, 2003–04 Premier League Goal of the Month (1): March 2003 Barclays Player of the Year (1): 2002–03 Premier League Golden Boot (1): 2002–03 UEFA Club Forward of the Year (1): 2002–03 UEFA Team of the Year (1): 2003 FIFA 100 UEFA Euro Silver Boot (1): 2004 UEFA Euro Team of the Tournament (1): 2004 Pichichi Trophy (1): 2006–07 IFFHS World's Top Goal Scorer of the Decade 2001–2010 Drogba individual honours Onze d'Or: 2004 UEFA Cup Top Scorer: 2003–04 Ligue 1 Goal of the Year: 2003–04 Ligue 1 Team of the Year: 2003–04 Ligue 1 Player of the Year: 2003–04 African Footballer of the Year: 2006, 2009 Chelsea Players' Player of the Year: 2007 PFA Team of the Year: 2006–07, 2009–10 Ivory Coast Player of the Year: 2007, 2012 Premier League Golden Boot: 2007, 2010 ESM Team of the Year: 2006–07 UEFA Team of the Year: 2007 FIFA/FIFPro World XI: 2007 BBC African Footballer of the Year: 2009 Chelsea Player of the Year: 2010 Time Top 100: 2010 Africa Cup Top Scorer: 2012 Africa Cup Team of the Tournament: 2006, 2008, 2012 Golden Foot: 2013 Ivory Coast all-time Top Scorer
Individual honours? Read as the "Who gives a ****" awards. Havent even heard of half of those awards. "Sir Matt Busby Player of the year", how many of those did Pele win? ESM team of the year? IFFSH team of the year. Are you on drugs?
There are lots of strange awards on Drogba's list to, like Chelsea player of the year, which is the same as our Matt Busby awards. But of the big awards Van Nistlerooy has better ones. He was the top goal scorer for a full decade. He was on a different level to Drogba, no doubt about that
He most certainly was Lets look at a list of some honours that actually matter RVN: Premier Leagues: 1 FA cups: 1 Golden Boots: 1 Drogba: Premier Leagues: 3 FA Cups: 4 League Cups: 2 European Cups: 1 Golden Boots: 2
