Mixed on De Vries . Part of me knows he's a great shot stopper & desperately wants to hang on to him . The other part knows that players in the Premier jump higher & nod the ball with more ability from set pieces & it's certainly not De Vries strong suit . An improved De Vries , in the box handling the ball staying with us , is the best scenario . But somebody else who commands the box superbly & is pretty good at stopping the ball also is not so bad , especially as are shopping ability has expanded . De Vries deserves his chance , but he shouldn't push it .
I am presuming that a lot of the wait is Rogers being away and Jenkins wanting to run all options (in terms of the players being touted by agents) by him before things get signed and sealed.
I'm not a big fan of gossip but to add something into the mix, i've just heard Dorus is heading off to Wolves after turning down a £20,000 deal with us. We'll see, but i'll be VERY sad to see him go. Nothing is black and white yet though...
Definately..... i heard chelseas are after him too..... but there was something on a site i can't remember about him saying that swansea would be much better for him as he would want first team football and knows he won't be competition for cech
I hope rangel signs asap! and i wish Dorus would..... Crowd favourite and all for the fans plus incredible ability!
£3m for a newcomer to British football seems risky, but looking at the big clubs coming in for him it might prove a good deal. Unless he's as good as Dorus with the ball at his feet then I'd keep DvD as the #1 though, now is not the time to be changing key personnel if we don't have to - though it also depends on him signing his new contract.
Being reported that Dorus has turned down the contract offer as he is unhappy with a clause about reduction in wages if we're relegated.Brendan is still to speak with him so we'll see how persuasive he can be, or will he just say 'if you don't want to play for us,on your bike'.
DVD sign or f**k off. I would love hime to stay but am a little fed up with his games at the end of every season. If he wants to go to a club and warm the bench for the season fine off you go. If you want to stay at a club where you will be first choice then 'SIGN THE F**KING CONTRACT'. I am sick of players who think they are bigger than a club. If he doesnt sign there are so many premier quality goalkeepers out there who would jump at the cahnce of playing for us.
Dorus is on holiday until the weekend, we've made our final offer to him so he'll either sign or move on this weekend (http://www.football365.co.za/story/0,22162,14287_6997545,00.html?). I hope he signs for us, especially if don't manage to bring Greg in.
I think he'll sign, even the way he plays has developed from being in a good passing team. If he does however move to the likes of Wolves I wouldn't be able to get my head around it, their a team who no doubt will be hanging round relegation plus he's not guaranteed to get a start over Hennessey.
What? He did this ONCE before after our first championship year when the other prospective offer was top flight football in Turkey, that's hardly the sign of a disloyal player. I want this sorted out soon just like the next guy but this is a life-altering decision for him, it's very harsh to say sign up of **** off considering it's still June!
As far as I'm concerned DDV can naff off as quick as he likes. It appears that if the worst happens, he wants to continue his Premiership wages whilst we are in the Championship. What a recipe for disaster that is!!! Remember what happened to us when we fell out of the old First Division? We were forced into a fire sale of our players and the club plummeted into the depths of the Football League. It took us almost a generation to recover and we nearly went out of the League and out of existence in the process. No, Mr De Vries, our club does NOT exist to provide you, or any other player, with a cushy living and a fat pension irrespective of results. The whole situation makes my blood boil. Where does this exist in any other form of working life? Not only do footballers demand utterly obscene wages to start with, they expect to receive them for the length of their contracts whether they produce the goods or not. It is conceivable that the day after signing a lucrative contract, a player could suffer a drastic loss of form (or decide that he can't be bothered to put in the work) and spend the rest of his tenure at his club sitting on the bench. Yet he still expects, and gets, his full wages. CRAZY! I'm sure Huw is of this opinion as well and I hope that ALL player's contracts will contain a "wage reduction" clause in the case of relegation. It should provide some incentive for them at least. As for DDV, the player, would he be that big a loss? His ability on taking crosses is sub-standard. Period. I believe that Premiership players will exploit this and we will ship goals galore because of it. Fair enough, he is an accomplished shot-stopper but, he has to be, to make up for his glaring deficiency on crosses. As for his distribution, I am sure that any good quality keeper can be trained to do this our way. I would certainly place the ability to take crosses and command the penalty area some distance above distribution in any goalkeeper that I employed. If DDV isn't prepared to change his stance, and quickly, wave him and anyone else of a similar mind, goodbye and get players in on OUR terms. If that means that our stay at the top is limited, so be it. The future of our club is more important than any money-grabbing football mercenary and I would sooner see us exist as a solid NPC club than flirt with extinction as we did before.
Hacker, I am sick of players trying to hold our club to ransom and thinking they are bigger and bette than our club With the threat of leaving if we dont pay what they want. There is a simple answer go. If you dont like whats on offer here then just go. There are a lot of keepers as good if not better who would jump at a contract with us. As for it being a life altering desicion. I think he has already made a tidy living out of scfc and will no doubt make an even better one if he signs and as hacker says the future of my club is far more important than one mans, next new super car. Ivor you sre spot on he is very dubious when it comes to crosses and i agree that a goalkeeper who can shot stop and take crosses is more important than one who can pass out from the back. But i don't get this he is so good with the ball at his feet buisness. he never hits a pass more than 10 yards and if he does its just a punt up field. I am sure i can do that much.
Well it impossible to keep players on premiership wages in the championship, the league has stipulated that 65% of income can be used for wages, you do the maths, it works out above that figure if you do that for all players! Really how can a player expect the sane salary when he and others have failed, and when the income for the club drops 60% in a year? Really if he wants to go because of this, then go! There are plenty of players out there who would like to play for the swans, no player is bigger than the club, he has been a great player for to which I thank him, but there is a limit
Between the help he has from our defensive formation up to this point , to the fact he might end up in a back up role , De Vries better think long & hard on his future . If he plays more of a back up role he can kiss his international hopes good bye . Even though we've made it to the Premier , we have to keep one eye on contracts in case we drop back . Six one way , half a dozen the other way with De Vries 's contract talks , nothing personal !!
I like the sound of that Polish goal keeper we've been linked with,6' 5" also with the fact that Chelsea are interesed where he wouldn't get first team football so maybe he would be interested in a move to a club where he was guranteed first team football. But this would depend on DDV making his bloody mind up wheather to stay or go.
I will be gutted if DDV does leave, he understands the way we play and it might take ages for a new keeper to get used to our style of playing. Also I don't think Wolves would be a good move for him cos they don't play the same way as us and I can see him ending up warming their bench for the forseeable if he goes. It's probably down to his agent - parasites, the lot of 'em - and once he's back from holiday and talks to BR it will be sorted.
This is the one part of the game that just sucks the enjoyment out of it. At this point Makalamby is out of contract, which means our current first choice keeper on the books is Cornell who spent last season with Port Talbot.
