Just watched Derry's reaction in the tunnel at the Etihad.......Why is he not Captain?! Perhaps cos he has not always started, but when he does, he should be Captain. He is always the go-to-guy in terms of interviews, along with Mackie. Always well spoken, encouraging and optimistic. Hope he is not binned just cos he isn't a household name or cos of his age (not that old to be fair).

A real pro's pro too........also, I reckon the club shop should sell some t-shirts with his mug on on the front with "I Love Football" on it.
    Superb.

He is - at least in Talksport Towers.

All weekend they referred to him as 'QPR Captain' Shaun Derry.

I don't think he'll be at the Club much longer with Hughes' clear-out coming up.

He'll probably hook up with COLIN at Leeds.

I had him down as my choice for captain should Barton do the off. Perfect choice IMHO, a true professional and usually the one talking with the referee when things go wrong!

Mind you things going wrong with referees usually involve our current 'captain' so hardly surprising he's the one doing the talking really<doh>

He's been terrific for us these two years. I don't know if we'll ever see him again but I hold him in the same regard as Ainsworth for his sheer passion which makes up for a pretty clear lack of ability. Seems like a nice guy too.

He's a true gent and we should be blessed to have him at the club. I think no matter what happens the club should try and hold onto him as a squad player.
We need these guys from the last few years to carry the baton onwards and keep some consistency in the squad

You cannot underestimate the impact that these sort of players have on team cohesion and morale......compared to some utter dross at the club, he should be kept at all costs......even if as a squad player....Derry has got coach/future manager written all over him.

Amazing how our best players this season have been players from our championship team: Kenny, Derry, Mackie, Faurlin and Taarabt.......If it ain't broke....

Newbury totally agree, also think thats why too much buying in the summer will be a bad thing.
When Clint was on loan to Notts Forest did anyone think he would be POY
All the riches spent and Hill and Mackie have been our two best players.

I can see a situation where we buy more players this year and Jay B and SWP end up as players of the year next year,
No less likely than Hill and Mackie this time last year?

Same as Hill for me, he deserves another year even if he is not going to be first choice. While we should get rid of the rubbish, loyalty helps separate us from the rest.

Yes it is true and in a way it explains why we were fighting against relegation until last minute.

Derry, with Hill and Mackie are the real fighting core of our team. MH should try real hard to keep them.

He has been de facto captain whenever he's played. Under Warnock he was the one going to the bench during breaks in play and reorganizing the team accordingly, and noticed the same thing happening v Stoke last week. Unfortunately he can't go on forever, and is increasingly less mobile. If he wants to play on regularly he may well need to leave, but as Roller posted a few weeks ago it would be nice to think he could find a place on the coaching side.

I'm in ****ing Pittsburgh again, 6.25 in the evening, just logged in pre beers. The site seems to be a bit haywire with joy and stupidity, staying out of it.
Welcome to the bunch of new posters who have popped up out of nowhere......always good to have fresh blood, but where the **** have you been during the dark days!!!!

Swords - probably having some kind of work meeting in Dublin later this year. I'll try and turn up a day early/ leave a day late and buy the Dublin Rs a pint - send you details when arranged.

Agree we will not see Derry again in the hoops but he will not go to Leeds , he was involved in the Whole team leaking scenario with Palace when Wise was manager.

I reckon he might do one more season in the CCC maybe with palace , he has looked of the pace for large parts of the season. If we are to move forward like we all hope we do the likes of Derry will have to make way i'm afraid.

No room even as a squad player next season ?

In the long team I agree but whole sale changing has proven difficult this year (ok difficult circumstances as well), we have the basis of a good team already, we need to get rid of some dead wood (well quite a lot really) but the performers from this year should all stand a good chance of staying for another season even if some will not be first team players.

They may decide to move (not being first pick) but that's their choice but giving the opportunity I think is just and also needed. Happy players through out the squad is a key thing and showing reward for performance will help sow the seeds of happiness.

Tbh mate he has been a squad player this year and looked off the pace in a lot of games, he has had some good games and shown passion but i just can't see him being part of our future . If Faurlin were fit he would have played only a handful.

We want to be a team thats not fighting relegation next year , i personally think SD cannot feature if that will be the case. It may sound harsh but he is 35 this year , its too old to be the legs in the engine room in the Prem league.

Well except for kenny whos been mostly terrible.

Warnock fragmented the team by getting players on too much money. Those above were probably on less than 20k and then they have barton and SWP who are worse but on 3-4 times as much.

We should have bought players like Rhodes who would have fitted in with our wages structure.
