Have any not606 posters had a history with depression?

How does the treatment work? If you're depressed say, for a certain reason that won't resolve, what happens? Are you given treatment to curb your depression regardless of the cause? Having your mental health controlled whilst the very reason for it's state continues on just doesn't sit right with me if that makes sense.

If you are given medication for it, is that you for life? Can you become dependent?

They say the hardest part is admitting it to yourself and seeking help, but for me the hardest part is where I will be 6 months, a year down the line, wondering whether I will still be on treatment/ off treatment and coping/ off treatment and not coping - back to square one needing more treatment or something much worse.

Norwich won the Milk Cup in 1985, not 1982.

My friend had depression because she was struggling at uni, the Quack gave her something called Xeroxat and she turned into a Zombie and went suicidal. These drugs rewire the brain and release happy juice , when the happy juice dries up they get even more depressed.

    1 - Go to Doctor

2 - Ask about treatment options

3 - Never take presribed medication as a first resort

    4 - see a counsellor regulary (every 2 to 3 weeks)

5 - speak to your family about it and keep them up to date

6 - take medication if required - not beta blockers (if it is anxiety based depression) as they are highly addictive

7 - if on medication, look to review your position if 3 to 6 months

8 - keep the counselling up - especially if you ever stop taking medication

I would say use medication as an absolute last resort. Know a few people on medication to treat depression, one who's been on medication since they were 13. Definitely appears that once you are on the meds you won't be coming off them anytime soon.

    What Pud said.

If it's specific events or circumstances in your life that have caused the depression, counselling should be fine on its own without any medication. If you can't change the circumstances, they should be able to give you strategies to help you view them differently.

I'd agree with everything apart from whats in bold.

If you take medication beale theres a good chance you won't feel any effects for up to 2 weeks until whatever is prescribed works it way into your system.

Personally I reckon taking pills doesn't help but thats just like my opionion mang.
