Reports say Dempsey is being sold to MLS and Seattle Sounders, so I wonder if they would be open to us taking Dembele (even on Loan), since they have about 10 midfielders ?

I saw that, you beat me to the punch. What a waste! I hope he enjoys his CL football.

He must have been told by Tottenham that he's be on the bench next year and decided, perhaps to his credit, that he'd rather play than sit and collect a huge pay check. Wished he was going to the Portland Timbers, the MLS team in my home town, rather than their primary rivals, but that's football.

I would take him back what 2/3mil.
Scored 12 goals last season that would suit us, or would Catermole be a better bet.

I don't have a problem with Dempsey, but he's not the answer to our problems. He'd be further competition for the positions where we're strong - wide man or support striker - rather than a central playmaker or an out-and-out striker (or, for that matter, left back). If he ever came back to Fulham, I'd welcome him with open arms, but he isn't what we need right now.

I hope he does well wherever he goes but I think it's a bit of a shame if the premier league loses his talent. A poor career choice to go to Tottenham, really. The fans have never liked him, no idea why not, and he now doesn't seem to fit the plan going forward for them. A real pity for him.

I goes this takes out the Dempsey's better than Donavon because he plays in Europe argument.

Sorry, but Dempsey is and was never better than Donovan, Manobear. I admire Dempsey for testing his talent in the worlds best football league while cowardly Donovan remained a big fish in a small pond, but I've seen them both play repeatedly, and Donovan's the better player.

For Americans, it seems Jozy Altidore has become the flag bearer in the UK.

Whilst I was miffed (to say the least) at Clint for going to Spurs, particularly the manner of his departure, I now feel that I can genuinely wish him well in Seattle. No doubt things at Spurs haven't worked out as he hoped so he's cutting his losses and making the most if what's left of his playing career.

What sort of team are the Sounders, DR? Good, bad, indifferent? I don't know much at all about the MLS

Oh that was my point! People who disagreed with that would immediately go to the Dempsey had the balls to stay in Europe. Now that argument has little weight because Dempsey had a choice on wether stay in the PL or move back to the MLS.

Donavon has admitted his failings in Europe earlier in career was all down to his mentality. He felt he had already "made it" and didn't push himself. Once he became the face of the MLS and US Soccer all together, it was going to be hard for him to get back to Europe on a permanent basis unless he forced his way out. Which may be something he'll look back in and wish he did when his career's all said and done.

One of the better teams, but they have arguably the best support in the entire league. They're like the Arsenal of the MLS. Good team, play decent football, but don't win anything.

He's one of those players whose good when he shows up to player, but absolutely terrible when he doesn't. He normally doesn't show up, not sure why Stoke signed him. He'll he sold back to somewhere in the MLS in a year or two.

Jozy now is the poster American player for the Premier League. I think'll make a pretty good impact at Sunderland.

Ms. Penguin, Seattle's a new MLS team that hasn't been too successful yet, but Seattle's a beautiful city, home off Boeing, Microsoft and Starbucks. I'm sure Dempsey and his family will enjoy it. That Seattle had the money and nerve to go out and get a high-profile player like Dempsey says a lot about the team's ambition (insert Mark Hughes joke here) and financial resources.

Brek Shea is a very talented player, but I suspect he lacks the personal competitiveness that drove people like Dempsey and McBride.

Altidore is going to be great for Sunderland.

It's because aside from his goals, he was sluggish, crap touch, slow, showed no awareness to play a pass and was clumsy.

Not the dempsey you remember but he was also signed to replace vdv, who was magic, so from the start he struggled but to be fair he chipped in with some goals so wasn't all bad.
