If we listened to all the talk of where Clint Dempsey may, or may not be going, he could be playing for a different team each week. But to get to the point do you think a move will enhance his career.I feel that he would have to be very selective as to what club he would move to ie: Liverpool with their present manager, and ego trip players, that move could be a complete disaster. Clint,stay with us,and be part of next seasons cup winning side,and top 4 finisher.
Naturally I'd love him to stay, but I've thought since the start of the season that this would be his last at Fulham and his performances have only made that more likely. Looking at the options, I agree Liverpool would be a disaster and he'd probably spend much of his time warming the bench at Spurs. The two moves that I can genuinely see enhancing his career would be Arsenal and Man Utd, with Arsenal the most likely destination. I don't have Sky so don't see many PL games not involving Fulham, but when Arsenal came to the Cottage at Christmas they were absolutely crying out for someone like Clint in midfield. If he'd had the chances that fell to Gervinho the game would have been over by half time. If he does leave I hope we can include a buy-back clause in any deal so that if - like Pienaar at Spurs - it all goes belly up then we can bring him back in January.
Clint has fitted well into the systems he's played under 3 managers. This would seem to indicate that he should be able fit into any team, but I'm not totally convinced that he will have the same first team opportunities with the teams that have been mentioned that want him. And that if he does leave can he perform as well if he is rotated in and out the team. I think at Fulham he fits into the puzzle, under Jol he has been given less defensive responsibilities, and has flourished in his 'Ghost' role, coming through from midfield to attack.
For the sake of Fulham, I hope he stays. But if he decides to move on and pursue new challenges, I'm not going to hate him for it. I don't think he'll stay. At 29 it's now or never for him.
I'm sick to death of hearing his name at the moment to be honest. Did anyone hear what the Liverpool chairman had to say on the matter? 'I'm not one to discuss transfer targets who are at other clubs, but any team would be lucky to have Dempsey in their squad' Real suave that one.
I would say that Arsenal are favourites in terms of location and style. He'll be on the team sheet every week for sure. I along with everyone else wouldn't begrudge him the chance to test his mettle against the finest in Europe. On the flip side I'm not concerned if he does leave. I think the quality in depth that could take his place is very exciting. It might mean a slight change in tactics but that's football.
Absolutely agree with DR. But he's been a great servant and if it his last big chance then go for it, no problem. I would just want him to go for good money for us and to a team that will play him regularly.
Agreed with everyone, especially on getting a sensible fee and him going to actually play regular (Champions League) football. I also don't think we'll be too hard up on finding a replacement, I think we have plenty at the club already.
Tend to agree Craving but how will it work with them having already signed Podolski ? I'm in the praying that he stays camp. He's always been on my team sheet and can well remember the early day's when Woy reluctantly, or so it seemed to my blinkered eyes, brought him on as sub and he changed the game in our favour. But, like everone else, would only wish him the best whatever he decides.
MJ hit back in today's papers, saying "I'm very positive about a few Liverpool players because I like them a lot but it doesn't mean we can afford to buy them." Asked if Werner's comments bothered him, Jol added: "If a manager does that it's different because it's a tap-up but if it's an owner, he probably doesn't know about the rules and agreements. I'm not bothered about it." Totally unrelated, but in the same article Jol bemoaned the fact that he couldn't drink to celebrate the Liverpool win because of being on antibiotics. Gotta love the guy!
