I keep reading that Newcastle are looking to offload Demba Ba... Well firstly, this is crazy and secondly, assuming his wages arnt too massive, he has a £7m release clause...why not have a go? He is a proven scorer for relative peanuts!
I think you'll find, they're not looking to offload him, they're concerned that someone will come in for him because of that release clause! I would guess his wages are at least double our upper limit! Nice thought but a no-no
Ba is an example of a huge pay off after putting trust in your medical team (re. Bushby's "Injuries" thread yesterday). Stoke could have had him, but wouldn't risk it; West Ham took him but wouldn't give him a decent long term contract; Newcastle trusted their medics and got a bargain goal-machine! Not only that but Ba then introduced them to Papa Cisse and they ended up with TWO bargain goal-machines! Wonder if James Vaughan has a friend anywhere .......
West Ham did give him a longer contract, problem was that said contract included a release clause if they were relegated. I also believe the £7m release is only applicable in this window. This guys agent must be ridiculously good (from a player perspective).
Yes, my mistake, but as I understand it, it was some sort of "pay-as-you-play" deal, i.e. WH saw themselves as more or less taking a big gamble and were covering themselves against it failing. As you say, Ba's agent certainly seems to have had his wits about him.
It's crazy though, how much did they (WH) spend on him? He certainly wasnt that cheap if I recall rightly..?
£6m if I recall correctly. The bloke's knees are a ticking time bomb but he's a very good player when fit.
