Bruce Takes His Spree Up To £40M & Will Get Star Firing On All Cylinders Again Date: 11th July 2011 at 5:59 pm | Filed under: Sunderland,Tottenham | Author: Jamie Nield-Siddall | Tags: Asamoah Gyan, Darren Gibson, Harry Redknapp, Jermain Defoe, Steve Bruce Sunderlandâs sensational spending spree is set to continue as Steve Bruce has now turned his attention towards out-of-favour frontman Jermain Defoe . On a weekend that could see the black cats reveal Manchester Unitedâs Darren Gibson as the TENTH new addition on Wearside, since the transfer market opened this summer, Bruce will ponder over the prospect of using Asamoah Gyan as bait to reel in a deal with the North Londoners. According to the Daily Mail a straight swap between the two would see Sunderland demand a further £5m, for the man they paid French side Rennes £13m for last summer. It seems highly unlikely Bruce would be willing to part with the clubs record breaking signing after only one season that has seen him settle into the premiership beating the keeper 11 times. Talking to BBC Newcastle, Steve Bruce insisted it would take a âwonder bidâ for him to consider Gyanâs departure and indicated he is a strong first choice. He added âAs far as Iâm concerned, Iâm looking forward to seeing Gyan being ready for the Premier League better than what he was last year. I think heâll be better â he knows what to expect and Iâm expecting big things from him.â The Daily Mail has also reported if Gyan were to be left out of the approach for Defoe, then Sunderland are willing to launch an £8m bid to tempt him with a move to the Stadium of light. At the age of 28, the England International would certainly have a lot to offer. After a frustrating season a White Hart Lane that has witnessed him plummet from Harry Redknapp âs plans, a move away certainly looks on the cards. The way Sunderland are recruiting, I wouldnât be surprised to see Defoe Kicking off the new campaign wearing the red and white stripes. With a solid run in the side, full of confidence, an inform Jermain Defoe is as good as anybody on his day⦠He could form some partnership up top with Gyan⦠Who knows? "On a weekend that could see the black cats reveal Manchester United’s Darren Gibson as the TENTH new addition on Wearside" No point reading the rest. Utter garbage.
i will upset a few on here, but I don't want Defoe, and if he does come,Harry will have beaten us again!!The lad couldn't score in a brothel last season,so,why do we want him???
Dont really want defoe if im honest (wow did i just say that how times change ay) Especially dont want him if it means we lose gyan would rather take a gamble on someone on the continent for similar money Pogrebnyak maybe? Weve still got Wickham who i think will be quality this season and Dong (Unproven i know but must get a chance) and even Sess so wouldnt want a striker unless it was someone we couldnt say no to.
Defoe is a natural goal scorer, and his poor form last season is probably more down to the fact that Harry doesn't play him enough. However, my concerns regarding Defoe is that he is also a natural whinger, and his petulant attitude might be poor for team spirit.
I would not sell Gyan to fund the Defoe transfer, but Berbatov now he is a different matter, or Van nistleroy on loan till January.
I'm all for Defoe to be at the SOL..... Anyone that can score 5 times in one half in a prem game, can't be that bad. (still a record) Think we under-estimate him a lot,
Agree with a lot of posters on this thread.... wouldn't involve Gyan in any deal for Defoe. Would only take Defoe if he available for a knock down price i.e 4 to 5 million
Defoe is the best natural finisher in the premiership. Some of his goal are sheer quality. The reason he didn't score last season was because he was coming from the bench all the time or standing in for VDV when he was injured. Arry was playing Crouch and VDV for most of the season hence the lack of goals. Also he was injured too meaning he never really got a good run in the side. Defoe for Gyan, no way...... But I would test Arry at the moment because he has no money and I think if we went in for Defoe with a £10.0 million bid Arry would find that too hard to turn down. If we are interested we need to do it before the sell Modric otherwise Spurs can play silly buggers with the price.
I can't believe all this ****e about Gyan being sold. One of the reasons we struggled last season was cos we got rid of one of our top strikers, SB isn't that stupid enough to repeat it again. The idea of team strengthening is to add players not get rid of them, using Gyan in any deal for Defoe would NOT improve our squad.
