The Turkish immigrant credited with inventing the doner kebab has died in Berlin aged 80. Kadir Nurman set up a stall in West Berlin in 1972, selling grilled meat and salad inside a flat bread. He had noticed the fast pace of city life and thought busy Berliners might like a meal they could carry with them. While there are other possible "doner inventors," Mr Nurman's contribution was recognised by the Association of Turkish Doner Manufacturers in 2011. The combination of juicy meat, sliced from a rotating skewer, with all the trimmings and optional chilli sauce, has since become a firm fast-food favourite in Germany, and elsewhere. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24685617 Sleep well, sweet prince
I'm glad he's dead. The "kebab" as it has been thrust into our drunken culture is ****e. The "kebab" is the lowest of food being eaten by the lowest of pub/club culture which failed to pull a burd.
Not even a Falafel Tobes? please log in to view this image This place in Queensway is the bomb and no meat too
Never been there, nowhere is better than Maoz, the falafel place with an unlimited swanky salad bar. Will look out fpr that place though Falafels wraps aren't kebabs too. There's a place over the road from mine called Meze something that does wraps that weigh more than a 6pack of beer, ****ing monster things. Living in London is awesome for food.
Absolutely Toby - really good cheap places all over london and it doesnlt ahve to be fried chicken or kebabs. Personally i hate doner Kebabs. As Gambol and Jackie said the meat's rotten. I will however admit to being a tad partial to pitta bread and chips in my younger years
Only ****s and *****'s don't like doner kebabs. That said there is a big difference between a chip shop kebab and a proper Turkish kebab house. Chippy kebabs are **** and powdery.
We live in a culture that values our street food by meat quantity. If you had a kebab from Turkey, Eastern Europe or many Middle East place, there's much less meat and they taste far better, donner meat is just ain't nice though. I'll still toast to a guy that made me think there were the dogs bollox after a few spliffs < late night munchies>
