True, I mean we could always just... play him. More cover if we get a lot of injuries, and he'll definitely be gone in one more year anyway. EDIT: was referring to Smith, not Perch.

Guthrie, Raylor, Best, Shola - Good cover
Lovenkrands, Routledge - Modest wages, so not bothered if they stay or go.
Smith, Xisco - Waste of wages, please **** off at your earliest possible convenience.
Perch - Got to stay for his comedy value.

I'm really disappointed. I saw the thread title and imagined that there was an Al Swearengen type swear fest going on! :( Great show!

    Anyway I digressed!

I think all the players listed by the OP are either deadwood or just squad lightweights (Guthrie, Best, Lover) and all are replaceable.

Should we be looking to get rid of all though? I would say yes, but they need to be replaced. We shouldn't get rid of any if we don't have a suitable better replacment or a kid from the academy who is ready for the step up.

    Definitely!

    Smith - Vuckic/Abeid
    Perch - Tavernier
    Xisco - Airey
    Raylor - LuaLua

Plus plenty more in the wings. The bit-part players can easily be replaced by academy kids as 3rd/4th/5th choice in their positions.

I agree with this assessment. If we don't have some reserve/youth players ready to step up who are able to match these players then it is a sad indictment of our academy, because lets face it none of the players we are talking about are anything special.

Best is gash lads. I really can't believe the turn around on this board.
Nearly everyone on her slated him before his 'freak' hattrick against a VERY poor West Ham side.
Personally, I don't even want him as back up. If Ba / New striker Gets injured, Best will be our number 1 striker..............no thanks

    Best = Deadwood
In fact i'd rather have Jedward.

I agree with this. I think Best is good enough for good backup as is Guthrie. Towards the back end of last season Guthrie showed that given a run of games and a bit of confidence he aint actually a bad player. We get on his back as soon as he does something wrong but he has to learn to deal with this.

They both still have something to offer for me!

if you could graft shearers right leg onto ranger and give him a bit of a run who knows??? i think rangers problem is he has 2 left feet, but i think i would rather he go on loan to pool than flog him to them.
the same goes for Best you can't judge him either way cos of his injuries. However, lets see if he can go a full season without injury and if he turns into a player who has constant injury probs - let him go.
    xisco - get rid now
guthrie - keep him no doubt
smith - thanks but no thanks now especially if his wages stop other players coming in.
perch - not sure, but wheres his best position? he seems to get chucked in all across the back 4, how many others do we have can cover that?
routledge - flatters to decieve, get his chances in the team but doesn't produce - i think the championship is where he belongs

we have a small squad anyway and if he gets rid of the 3 above, is he going to go out and get replacements ?
