Any ins/ outs? Any funny rumours? I predict zero ins today, with one or two loanees in the coming two weeks. Surely no outs?
I know the cliché is that deadline day purchases are for poorly organised/desperate clubs, scrabbling around for short-term fixes. Yet it's a cliché that could be levelled at us. We have a thin squad, our fringe players have not stepped up when given the opportunity, and there is a serious dearth of creativity in the team. We can only hope that McCarthy has a couple of inspired loan signings up his sleeve, because it looks like the chequebook remains firmly in Evans' back pocket. Jerome Thomas isn't in the U21 squad for tomorrow's match, so maybe we've discarded thoughts of signing him already. At this rate, all we can hope for is this squad continues to punch above its weight and McCarthy can keep the ship steady and pointed towards the play-offs. Yet I have a feeling that we'll be unable to repeat the achievements of last year and this lack of ambition and investment is going to punish us come May!
Appears Jerome Thomas MAY be coming on some form of deal - yes he's 32 and not played for a bit, doesn't spring out massive ambition but a fully fit / interested Thomas would be a massive player for us - gamble worth taking I would say for a minimal wage. Upgrade on Toure if nothing else. We're a little short this time around - in other thread I've mentioned Wendy signing McGeady....
Rumours that we might have a 2 million bid in for Bradley Dack from gillingham.... .......I don't believe said rumours it I'm honest.
Looks a decent player ...but the 2million Price tag makes me think we have no chance of seeing this happen
Absolutely no loss - other than financially. That's four players' contracts we've paid up in the last week or so
Mick has said there'll be no last minute signings and isn't going to do any panic buying. The loan window may be a different story though. He mentioned other clubs with transfer embargoes doing business, not sure how that works!
Isn't there some rule where if you get rid of one, you can bring in another? Also doesn't count with academy players, or do I have that wrong?
You know what......I know it's a little early........but I'm starting to think.......that we won't be seeing any signings today.
A very disappointing window. We've actually come out of this with a weaker and thinner squad. I hate stuffing the team with loans, particularly as we have a few already, but I think it's essential we get in a little bit of quality to help momentum and make sure we're competing with the big-spenders. Either that, or some of our first-team regulars are going to need to play to a much higher standard than what they have been recently.
I think this just shows the intent of ME. Surely MM was aware of this before putting pen to paper on a new contract. Surely we should be thinking at least about buying some young talent from lower leagues and hope they work out (any transfer is a risk - part of the game) and then sell them on for a profit if needs be at a later date. I find it all a bit sad really, but then the Leisure industry is feeling the pinch at them moment so ME may not have any cash to play with. Time for him to sell up maybe? Just my thoughts.
You are kidding? A man who is worth £700m, and who's fortune rose by £75m last year alone? Just the interest alone on his fortune could bankroll us to the premiership.
