    Lifted this off another forum.

Dutch media (VI) now reporting a delegation of Borussia Monchengladbach has arrived at the FC Twente stadium at 15:00 CET to finalise a deal which will include a player exchange with Twente target Oscar Wendt. Also De Jong's father and agent are there.

    Looks like he's a goner..

Now I'm worried about our striker options... Particularly during the ACON...

Heard someone say on twitter that they might meet with them but there is no chance of either Newcastle or Monchengladbach meeting the valuation.

With us putting in our best and final offer... And Schteeve Mac just releasing a 'make me an offer I can't refuse' statement, it's dead methinks.

OK, OK, you drive a hard bargain Schteve.

So we will give you Xisco + Ranger in exchange for De Jong and Douglas, but we want £25m in cash as well. OK? Deal?

Good point! While De Jong may now be out of reach, the club policy of settling fees up front does give us extra pulling power. £10m now is very attractive to some clubs compared with £15m over the next 5 years. Depends on their own finances and business model, but will sometimes work in our favour.

Hope we don't end up regretting not paying that little bit extra mind, but it sends a distinct message to the future selling parties that we won't be took the piss out of regarding transfers.

A good policy to have, I'd much rather we kept our head above water financially.

Totally agree. I wouldn't pay way over the odds to have a particular car or house, just because it is in demand. So I don't expect NUFC to pay over the odds for players who are in demand. That is excatly the kind of behaviour that sees clubs go into administration. I'd rather we miss out on the odd player if it means sticking to a strategy that will keep the club financially secure. Chances are, those players who look elsewhere due to wages, etc wouldn't be right for our dressing room anyway. The club has worked hard at getting the team spirit sorted, so no point disrupting that for the sake of one or two egos.

    This.

The Club is working to its own rules of how it wishes to operate, and to make exception to that just makes us look susceptible to backing down and leaves us open to being taken advantage of.

Agree about team spirit too; so much of what we have right now is down to the unity in the dressing room.

I just believe that the players we get in will be right for the team, bought at the right price and for the right reasons.

    THIS

Whilst it would be a good short-mid term capture.... the long term game and our position will be better.
Am I along in thinking Twente are bitter cos we picked their pocket over Tiote?

The current financial situation is affecting everybody and there's not likely to be a lot of silly money transfers taking place. We've got a top scouting team that will no doubt unearth another bargain or two without having to pay silly money for them.

I find it so refreshing to see how people's stance on the club's transfer policy has changed over the past 2 years.

I remember being on forums a good while back when we were in the hunt for players and people were doing their nuts about us not paying the going rate for players etc, and how the hell were we supposed to challenge for anything or develop as a club if we weren't prepared to pay for good players to come in.

Fast forward a couple of years, and having seen the work of a certain Graham Carr, not to mention the snippets of information we get from the club about how Llambias and Charnley do their business etc, and people's views have completely changed.

We are happy to be linked with good players now, and we are even happier to see us actually putting our money forward to try and get these players. There however seems to be a great understanding now of how the club works financially, and the rewards that we are seeing for the work that Ashely and his team have done over the past 2-3 years in particular. I think the club now have a good understanding of what a player (target) is worth and they are not prepared to pay over the odds. We've seen this with Cisse as we were quoted £13m when we enquired about him last year if reports are to be believed...which I'm inclined to. We ended up getting him for £10m which is obviously what we thought he was worth.

The other thing which I like hearing about is the fact that we are prepared to pay the full transfer fee up front. This I think is a massive hook for the club and very unusual in football transfers involving premier league clubs and a very good statement about how our current owner wants the club to be ran. The other side to this of course is what we saw with the transfer of our £35m geordie mule, in that the club asked for the transfer fee to be paid in full. Granted they knew that they were getting a pricely sum from Chelsea for Torres, but again this could be a key factor in us keeping hold of some of our players. Not that an upfront fee would bother City, but there aren't many clubs other than the top 3 or 4 who could fork out £20m-£30m on one player without compromising their own transfer policy and risking not being able to buy other players.

If De-Jong doesn't happen then I'm confident we have other options in that department that we are looking at, same goes for the others we are linked with.

    Good times ahead methinks.

We'll only really know when its on the Twente website. Otherwise its just yet another media outlet looking for the scoop. As for our transfer policy, it seems pretty sound to me and I wouldn't want us bending it unless you were talking the next Messi or Ronaldo. I've seen enough of De Jong to confirm he is not that.
