Note its not there quality YOUNG players being linked with other clubs, its the ones reaching the end. Barce drumming up interest in over the hill players for extortionate prices

No if we want someone from Barce it should be Alcantara, not soemone who will be plying ther trade in the US in 2 years

Villa at 29 is still an exceptionally talented striker, still in the top 5 world wide, its just unfortunate for him, that he's playing in the same side as one of the greatest ever.

Would he want to join the 7th best side in England?

Possibly but I doubt it. I'm sure if any of the top European sides(CL teams) from England Italy or Spain were to come in for him, then he would prefer to go to them. I know he would be cup tied for Europe anyways, but Liverpool don't look like there going to get top 4 this season and qualify for the CL next year, with Spurs looking far stronger.

At his current age, I don't believe he is value for money at anything over 20 million, but Dalglish isn't exactly shy when it comes to splashing the cash (35 million Carroll) so it wouldn't suprise me if he was prepared to pay over the odds for him:biggrin:

    1. he won't want to join us.

    2. same as point 1.

    3. same as point 2.

this is a total waste of time debating something that is so unrealistic.

Well, it may be that David Villa is available, as we could certainly do with a clinical finisher, so the fit is there.
Pep Guardiola is denying a rift between Villa and Messi, but reports out of Spain (a spanish radio station - Cadena SER) suggest that the club has contacted Villa's agent.
Much has been made of Villa's friendship with Pepe Reina, so if David was unhappy, he may have spoken to Pepe when on International Duty, and this would make sense as to why the club has been making enquiries. David would almost certainly be first on the teamsheet with Luis as a pair. This would be attractive to him given the approaching Euro 2012 Championship, and we could do with the firepower to propel us into CL position. - The fit is there on both sides of the potential deal.

However, the lack of European Football this season makes the deal significantly less attractive for David.

I wouldn't go so far to say its a definite no-no, as MITO does, but I wouldn't rate it much more than a 3-4/10 for likelihood. The reputed price of ~£34mil would appear reasonable, so long as the wages are not excessive - I think that would be the most likely sticking point.

No sure this is true, Afterall what looks better a goal a game for a PL team, or 10-15 goals a season playing second fiddle to messi. I think Villa could do a lot better in terms of goals at a club that plays to his strengths, but with this in mind if he does leave then i would expect competition for him to be fierce. Either way he won't be left out of the Spain side, espicially with Torres being so crap at the moment.
I agree with st John the chances of him coming to LFC is low maybe 3/10 but at least we are now being linked with world class strikers which is what we despirately need! If we did get Villa i dont think we would have a problem outperforming Spurs and Arsenal in the second half of the season.

Seeing as KK spent 20m on Hendo/Downing.

    And 35m on Carol.

Villa must be worth around 45m

£22m on Suarez, so Villa must be worth about £15m. Oh wait, football doesn't work like that.

Spain’s premier radio station Cadena SER report that the Reds made initial contact with Villa’s agent in an attempt to establish whether a deal could be brokered.
It’s unclear what they were told, but Barcelona-based newspaper Sport, are claiming Liverpool are planning to push ahead with their interest in the Spanish international as they look find an adequate replacement for Fernando Torres.
January’s £35million signing Andy Carroll has so far failed to impress, while Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy have failed to cement a place alongside Luis Suarez in the Reds firing line.
The Anfield owners have already proven they're not scared of splashing the cash, but will surely demand boss Kenny Dalglish make a significant sale before they bankroll any bid for Villa.
Barcelona manager Pepe Guardiola has recently denied that any bad feelings exist between Villa and Messi, saying: ‘It is impossible to be an enemy of David, he is too nice a person.
'He is generous both in the way he plays football and also in his personal life. It is impossible not to get on well with him.’

Villa has just three goals in eleven La Liga appearances this season, and is competing with Messi, Pedro, Ibrahim Afellay and Alexis Sanchez for a place up front, although the later two are currently injured.
