With all the rumours about Shane Long and Nicky Maynard coming as we need a 20 goals a season striker. Anyone think David Nugent could be the man we are looking for. He best season in front of goal is 17 while playing for Preston. But with more chances being created here I think he could beat that. We would still need a new striker but not one that will cost over 5M. But this would depend on how Waggy does this season as Vassell and Howard arent going to score many

I think he is quality from the two games I have seen but if we insist on playing 4 5 1 then we arent going to score unless we bring in another decent stricker. We seriously lack the killer instinct and have done for teh last two seasons.

I voted 11-15. I think he's a workhorse up front and sometimes that might mean he isn't in the best place to be in goalscoring positions. He's more a striker who'll get in and around double figures and also create chances for other strikers and create space for team mates by drawing defenders away with his movement.

Yeh he definitely needs more support. Vassell is now suspended and is often anonymous on the wing anyway. I think for the Reading game we need to utilise our midfield options as we are short up front.

I propose we play a 4-1-3-1-1, with a midfield of:

    -------------------------------------Fernandes------------------------------
    ----------Danns--------------------Wellens-------------------Gallagher----------
    ----------------------------------King-------------------------------------

And then Nugent up top. He should not be isolated like this as we'll have 3 attacking players in midfield, Wellens can construct moves and Fernandes can deal with the defensive issues, as well as what's looking a solid defence. The idea is King, Gally, and Danns all surge forward when we are in possession. On Saturday this didn't happen as we had a lot of defensive minded players on the pitch, and as we were down to 10 men and under the cosh a bit at times I think they felt they didn't want to risk throwing too many people forward. This is a home game though so it should be different.

I'd also have Howard on the bench as an option B, I still don't think people should underestimate his effectiveness - even against Madrid he was casuing problems.

Our team is scremaing out for Maynard - it would suit him perfectly. Bristol City appear to need the 'disposable' cash to buy a decent defense and are confident in the ability of Pitman to get them, the goals they need. Am i the only one for see's our attrition completely destructive and pointless for both parties!!!! Grrrr

I would love us to sign Maynard as he has the ability to score a goal out of absolutely nothing. And that is something we havent had in a long time. He is a very good player but only black mark on his CV is his injury past. I just want a striker signed up and we all know how highly Sven rates Maynard. Just pay the bloody 5M get him signed up and move on. We have waited long enough know and need a striker asap as apart from Nugent I dont think Sven rates any of our striker too highly apart from Vassell but hes crap

I voted 11-15 as I can see him moving on the wing once a new striker is brought in. I fancy him to do well and to score from set pieces and from lay offs by the new striker and King.

I thought i would bring this thread up. Nugent has 12 goals at the minute and only Rickie Lambert and Ross McCormack have more. With 15 games to go Nugent could easily score 8 goals to get him to 20. He missed a month of the season with a hamstring injury aswell

He is one of the few good signings Sven did make. He is like a better version of Iain Hume and with more goals

He will get poached by a Premiership team at the end of the season I bet - we'll be really lucky if we still have him next season.

Is interesting to see how people opinions have changed. After how Maynard has treated Bristol and how many goals he has scored this season offering 9M for him looks like complete madness but at the time we all thought it would be worth it.

    Im changing to 16-20 <ok>

but tbh, hes been our only good striker this season, glad hes scored so many, he puts so much effort in, he deserves them.

Id rather he outdid my prediction then, so 16+ please Mr Nugent

Although to be fair, i thought we were going to have another striker that would outscore him at the time.
