Linked with us again. I'd be chuffed with this like. Ex-Manchester United manager David Moyes is the latest name to be linked with taking charge of Sunderland this summer. Reports in the Sun today have indicated that Moyes is a target for Sunderland at the end of the season, when current head coach Dick Advocaat remains expected to depart at the end of his short-term contract. However, only last week, Moyes stressed that he wants to stay at Real Sociedad after only taking charge of the La Liga outfit last November. “I’ll be here. I’m not going anywhere,” said Moyes, amidst speculation linking him with Newcastle and West Ham. “There’s always speculation, but I’m here to do the job. “I want to try to get everything in place so we can be at our best for the start of next season.” There would be question marks over whether Moyes would fit into Sunderland’s head coach / director of football system too. Sunderland are keen to recruit a head coach, rather than a traditional manager, this summer and that has led to the Black Cats ruling Sam Allardyce out of the race to be the long-term successor to Gus Poyet.
Undoubtedly a very good manager, but I'd rather have Dick for a year or two TBH. Besides, I couldn't trust Moyes if he dumped Real Sociedad that quickly.
I second the notion of Moyes not working with DoF, he like to run his own recruitment. Dick and Congerton with their Frank Arnesen connection looks like a match made in heaven for next season. Provided we get a good budget I think we'll have a good summer of recruitment.
I think we'll be Looking for a manager who will work with dof. Regardless of anything the dof is part of the club now. Had the argument with my dad the other day. Lee Congerton has friends in high places and has connections this club could build on. I'm with @Funky Dick on this one. If Moyes won't work with dof he won't be coming here end of
I think Congerton and Dick having an established relationship can only be a good thing for making the DoF actually work. They're friendly with each other and the contacts invaluable
I still like the idea of Clement paired with DA to gain from his experience and provide some continuity. DA for another year would be OK but then you're back in to upheaval - Clement's first stint in the driving seat could end up as badly as PDC and GP or it could be glorious but the fact remains he has no track record as no. 1. Let's go the Liverpool way of the 60's / 70's / 80's to start something sustainable with modern thinking coaches and promoting from within. Quite like Moyes and think he would be good for us but agree he won't want to work with a DoF so think it will be a non-starter and this is just more lazy journalism. Long summer ahead if they don't seal the deal with someone quite soon after the final whistle. Taking too long obver an announcement might also make attracting players more difficult as they'll want to know who they are going to be working for, whether it's a coach or a manager.
