Altho our defence is a bit of a worry at the moment does anyone think it would be worth getting DM permanately . I had my doubts to begin with but i'm beginning to think he would be a good assett . He seems to be improving and i thought he had a great game last night . i think celtic would let us have him and at a very reasonable price . would be a good buy imo thoughts
Evening Dundee I haven't seen you on here for some time so glad to see you back on the board I agree with you on Murphy but tbh he has to keep on with his current form before we can even consider taking him in the summer. If he helps to get us out of trouble then I would be happy to see him being offered a permanent deal.
Celtic will get rid, no question. Im torn on him. Under Keane he was abysmal and he has never truely won me over. I think we use him more currently due to his build and ability to cover as we have no height in the team. He can do a job but I would only play him in games when you expect to be battered. Not sure if we cant find better for probably lower wages if Im honest but also wouldnt be horrified if we did sign him.
tractorbhoy, he was pretty awful under Keane but who actually looked good under Keane, I reckon he could have made Messi look like a donkey!! Murphy's done nothing spectacular but he's been very solid and done a good job for the team, as you say he's probably in the team more for his physical attributes than much else, but he's not a bad player. He works very hard defensively and is a good option to aim long balls at, I do like the tactic which we used when Walters played on the right wing or having a winger who's more likely to win the ball than the fullback as it means when they flick it on we have 2 players ahead of them, although for a while when Walters was here, that was our only tactic. I wouldn't be overly dissapointed with Murphy as he has done well more recently but wouldn't want to pay over the odds for him in terms of price and wages.
Agree PTC but him and Healy were meant to be our new attack - The one we replaced Stead with and were both pathetic. Stead looked better than the two of them combined so even under Keane when as you say everyone was useless it was still a downward trend. Dont rate Murphy as a forward but feel he can do a job as a wideman if we are not always looking to attack.
I'd forgotten about that, him getting rid of Stead. I wasn't his biggest fan but at the time he was doing well for us, and he is a half decent striker. That's just wound me up even more about Keane, I find it amazing how over a year has past since he has left and it still makes my blood boil what he did to this club. Also, how good does Walters look, since he left Town. I heard the other night one of the commentators say he was a bargain buy for just over £3 million and one of the most underrated players in the premierleague. Again whilst Keane was here he looked rubbish (and toward the end of Jims tenure), we were rubbing our hands together when stoke paid £3 million for him!! The players we lost in Keanes tenure, just think the team we could of had if we hadn't got rid of McAuley, Wright, Walters, Garvan and Rhodes!!!
Er Shouldn't this have been posted on the Keane thread? If not I can't see what this has to do with Murphy!
You're welcome to him. £1.5m should cover it. Not good enough for the SPL but should do a good job in the Championship
Lol, cos the SPL is light years ahead of the championship, Celtic & Rangers would do well to reach the playoffs......!
I thought the SPL was all about Rangers v Celtic and Celtic v Rangers...! Maybe we should apply to join the SPL then we would definately win a trophy every season!
The Championship Your richest club (Southampton) couldn't afford our players and you're sitting here talking about about signing a bloke who wasn't good enough for the SPL. The Championship is even more over-rated than the EPL
At the end of the season, Hooper won Scunthorpe's Player of the Year award. He declared himself delighted with the team's performance during the season, in which he scored 30 goals and Scunthorpe gained promotion. He then set himself a target of 15 Championship goals for the next season. He scored 30 goals in all competitions throughout the 2008–09 season. He scored 20 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions in the 2009–10 season. Good try but he scored goals for fun in your league
It must be wonderful to play in a League where either of the same 2 clubs are guaranteed to win it every year! The only snag is that the team that wins it has to qualify for the Champions League! Just proves what a great standard we are talking about!
And you're battling to get promoted into a league where only two teams are likely to win Keep setting them up mate
