Problem is we didn't spend enough money to stay in the PL, and we didn't buy the right players. We are living in cloud cookoo land if we think spending little money on kids and lower league players is going to do anything better than send us down to the lower leagues. We need to get back up ASAP and restructure at the same time. That takes Quality Championship players and some cash.
It shouldn't take so much money that we need to guarantee promotion just to be able to pay for it. We've finally got shot of the high earning spectres of our first transfer splurge and hopefully we can offload the remaining money pits. At that stage there's no reason why we need to do anything above building a stable Championship level club (with finances to match) and then trying to develop them individually and collectively into something more. 3 million per annum managers and players of the stature of Darren Bent is another financial gamble with success only measured by promotion and failure being another venture into FFP territory. We should be thinking bigger and better than that with better being long term success from a stable and sustainable platform. We definitely need to be better than this mentality of gambling addicts where we need to speculate wildly just to approach breaking even. With the salary beasts heading out the door, this is the best possible time to start.
Proven goalscorer at this level. Exactly the sort of forward we should be targeting. I've no doubt he'll be the Championship top scorer next season. I'd have also liked to see us go in for Jermaine Beckford.
