With everything else being discussed about the team that SAF, all of the attention seems to be on the midfield.

But what about Welbeck up front on his own?

I thought he did a sterling job. Tried to mix it with their defenders, albeit didn't win much in the air, it showed he is willing to do that. Worked the channels pretty well and when he got onto the ball and turned and ran at their defence, they did push back, shows just how much pace and ability on the ball Danny has.

Now I don't foresee Danny playing up front on his own many more times like that in his United career but again, it's a testament to how far he has developed. He looks physically stronger and looks to be an all round centre forward- he has scored a few goals this season with his head. Something that Rooney has only really developed in the last few seasons, something that Henry didn't really do a lot of (and yes, saying this despite the fact he did score a late winner against us, with his head!). But I feel that the Henry likeness can be applied to Danny. Time will only tell whether he will be half as sucessful as Theirry has been but I think he does have that aura of dribbling at Usain Bolt levels of speed floating over the grass- and with plenty of flair.

Has he pushed himself to number 3 striker in the United pecking order? Perhaps even higher?

Personally, it's only a matter of time before he overtakes Hernandez as Rooney's main partner. Don't get me wrong, I love Hernandez but I don't think he will ever be as good on the ball in terms of dribbling ability and overall technique, but I had that assumption about Owen and these days he looks like an attacking midfielder with his ability on the ball!

Lastly, where does this leave our other strikers? I've forgotten what Dimi, Kiko and Mame look like...

Welbeck has been impressive so far this season. Honestly I think the only thing will hold him back will be injuries, he seems to be a bit injury prone, but most of his injuries seem to be to his knees which is most likely growth related. He's tall, strong, extremely good with ball at his feet, and seems to have an excellent finishing touch. He also gets involved in the build play a lot, something Hernandez does not do that often. He's also a local lad and I'm sure if he's getting the playing time he deserves he'll be at Man Utd for the rest of his career.

As for where he is in the pecking order I believe he should be 2nd choice behind Rooney. Hernandez should start his fair share of games as well, but Chicharito is a more potent attacking option of the bench than any of our other strikers.

In the Liverpool game yesterday there was an incident where I believe it was Gerrard had the ball and was driving down the right wing, and Danny stayed with him the whole way, and they tussled for a bit in the corner and Danny won us a goal kick. We have 3 strikers in our squad that come back and help our defense win the ball. Obviously Rooney, and Hernandez also does a fair bit of tracking back.

    He is talking about Hernandez.

Don't see welbeck overtaking Hernandez anytime soon. This season at least. Hernandez proved last season he has the quality and consistency to bang in goals constantly and when he plays alongside Rooney he stretches the game and gives Rooney more space to play in that position he oh so loves between the midfield and defence.

As for nolhams comments about one trick pony and lack of an overall "game". That one trick pony ousted Berbatov from the number two slot despite him being top PL goalscorer and having all those attributes you seem to berate Hernandez for lacking.
