    Hello,

I was just wondering if you could enlighten me as to who you think will be your starting Left back in the coming season? After his good performances for Sunderland last year do you see Rose getting a starting spot?

    Thanks

if Bale goes and we get Coentrao as part of the deal, then it will be him.

If not, who knows? Some love Benny, some hate him. AVB doesn't seem a massive fan so could be considering Rose over Benny

So many people convinced that Benny is a gonner though. So we may well hang on to Rose.

I just assumed the OP was asking for fantasy football purposes rather than chances of Sunderland getting him?

Surely Sunderland have already tried this window?

Rose never showed any of this potential talent before he moved to Sunderland (aside from that cracking goal agaisnt the goons), he is just another O'Hara, in the sense a fairly average player who goes out on loan, plays a blinder but would never repeat that form for us if called upon.

As much as I have issue with Benny, he is still our 1st choice left back unless we sign someone else, and certainty don't want rose to be left back, as he isn't good enough.

I hope Benny is our left back but the fact he's barely featured in pre-season since coming back where as Rose has started every game I think, it does look as though Rose (or <insert new LB name here>) will be starting against Palace with Benny being sold.

Fair enough, I haven't really been following us pre-season (I gave up as you usually get excited over crap players), so clearly if AVB is starting rose then he sees something I don't, but I still believe Rose won't show the form he showed at sunderland and won't last long at LB if he is 1st choice.

    lol

like last year I though Siggy was going to be awesome based on his pre season form, then he was fairly useless, so I stop watching pre season games as either

    1) crap players play well and get your hopes up

    2) the good players don't perform and then you worry

<laugh> Good point actually, Sig got me all excited last pre-season. Actually not a bad idea to miss pre-season games... But then it'll feel like a lifetime since I last watched Spurs! Now you've got me all confused <wah>

He played well at left back on a decent amount of the few chances he was given. There's definitely still question marks over him but he's not been given enough chances to say that he's never showed any potential before then.

I thought he was poor at left back, and not to mention that stupid sending off at aston villa when we needed a win <steam>

Rose & Caulker had the same problem, they had a few chances, and maybe through nerves or inexperience didn't inpress some fans. Most players i.e. Bale, need a run of 1st team games to show what they are really capable of,at least it seem's that Rose might get that chance this season

Caulker had a good run of games after the OT win through Sept and Oct tots, JV was LB, and SC played with WG. We lost to Chelsea, Wigan, City, Norwich in the cup. How much of a run games do you give some one who's errors keep costing.

I keep seeing 'he needs a run of games' applied to this player n that...i do not agree with that, you only get a run of games as a younger player if you're good enough AND are showing good form. If you do not do enough in a game, the last thing you should be rewarded with is a run of games.

Other than that, Rose and Caulker have a similar problem as you say....not a top6 team starter, not at this point in their careers anyway.

Considering Sigurdsson played left wing when he's a centre midfielder I actually thought he did quite well - especially towards the end of the season.

As for left back - Rose is, I think, quite clearly our first choice unless we sign another one.

It was only towards the end of the season when siggy started showing some form, but overall he hasn't shown anything near the quality he showed in pre season, in terms of his energy and creative influence and to be honest i think he's fairly average and would any team in the top four sign him for their midfield?

As for Rose, if he is 1st choice, i doubt he will be for long, as its only his sunderland form which fans remember, you honestly think he is going to carry on where he left off? I remember most though o'hara would return from pompey the same player.

If you apply thr error's keep costing, then that applies to Benny to,as his error's do the same thing, who makes the most Benny or Rose?

Thats too difficult to really discuss, as clearly the more you play the more errors you stand to make and i doubt anyone can remember every game Rose has played and what errors he made, but Benny has been in the team for a long time now so as gained a reputation, at times unfairly, and when Walker was making errors, benny still got the blame, until people started to realise how error prone walker was.

Not sure what it is with us and error prone full backs, but we really need to change our scouts! (ps. not you SC ;))
