After the watching the game on saturday I was interested to see how our new loan signing from Spurs would do on his debut after a man of the match performance for the U21's a few nights before. My first impressions were that he looked like a left winger helping out the side and playing out of position further back at left back. The lad is very good on the ball and you would expect that from a lad who has played on the wing most of his career but he looked suspect when stood up against the winger, on the run no problems at all the lad has pace but on more than one occasion he looked suspect to getting skinned and with the big game of the season against Newcastle in a few weeks I certainly would not want him up against Ben Arfa. One game though is one game and it is not the time to judge the lad, this spell at Sunderland will be the first time he will have a proper chance to have an extended run in a premier league side and after 10-11 games that is the time to judge his once his fitness is up to scratch and he gets used to the way we play. I see the lad has came out today and said he would love to stay at the club beyond his loan and its upto him now to show the club that he is worth that, IMO I would sign him as left back/left wing cover and with MoN coming out the other day and saying he would of liked to add more to his squad and then talking about January I would not be surprised to see us back in for Strinic, if Dnipro are out of Europe by then and there other left back has recovered by then then watch this space.
From watching your game I personally thought lack of defensive support was more of a problem, he didn't have much help from McClean at all.
Probably for once I've got to agree with a mag , I think he needed a bit of help at times but I wouldn't lose too much sleep if he was our left back for the season and beyond.
He impressed me. Sterling will roast a few LB's this season, well and truly. Thought Rose dug in well, was decent with the ball, and looked sharp.
To be fair, when Liverpool scored Rose was to be subbed for a groin strain. According to ESPN otherwise he'd done well up to that point. Lack of match fitness probably took it's tole too!
Got to say I think at this point Colback is a stronger left back, maybe left back is Colbacks best position?? Rose will come good I am sure he has all the tools but might need a little more time.
