8 days left and despite a whole deck of cards with different players faces being, not just linked with us, but apparently "definite signings", every new day seems to bring another rejection, disappointment or paperwork roadblock. Our summer transfer debacle was understandable because of the takeover chaos, and the January window is notoriously underdressed, but still I'm getting that sinking feeling that our signings (if any!) won't be much better than those we got last year. Other clubs seem to make canny signings, but us? Will we look back and see this as a wasted opportunity?
This is exactly why people get so pissed off with CernyBerny and his like. All of the 'gospel' signings, the promises, given with a dash of insider knowledge - all of this raises our hopes unreasonably beyond what's actually got a chance of happening. I have no problem with people posting what they actually know is happening. I also have no problem with people posting what they would like to happen, or what they are guessing will happen. It's when pure speculation or invented stuff is delivered as cast-in-stone absolute truth that I, and many others, get angry.
You must get angry every time you watch Sports news on the tele, read text tv, or any internet football column then mate! They are full of stories that this and that player is on his way here and there. For example the Premier League channel last night confirmed Tiowa (spelling!) is on his way to us with little or no doubt on this being a "done deal", but it ain't on the official yet.
Maybe I'm just too placid by nature, but I never feel angry or upset or cheated by what the so-called ITK's say on this site or any other; I just see it as entertainment, like tv ads or kids shouting in the street. But I would like to feel that the player acquisition arm of QPR plc really know what they're doing and will make sharp value for money purchases or loans in the next week, and I don't, and I wish I did.
20 mill transfer budget?...yeh right!. We got one, unconfirmed, loan signing and not much else!.I dont think I can take watching Mackie,Hill and Derry for the rest of the season!
Agreed, but I would say most of the business in this window is done in the last week , its not as if all the other clubs have made signings and we haven't. Only really cahill and the newcastle forward that have signed, no-one else for cash has moved. I reckon we will seal a couple of these deals materialise. A left back was a priority for me and i think this Taiwo fella will be a good fit. A centre half and a forward and we will be in business. The agents are out there trying to get the best deals and will use up all the time avaialble. I reckon something will happen, we won't survive if we are relying on the names you have mentioned.
Nothing's a cert until it's done - especially where people and money are concerned. As a club, we're not the most attractive prospect for talented and ambitious players; and nor are we in the best position atm to persuade them otherwise. Apart from our plans to change all that, we've got two things going for us: a bit of money and a west central London location. Best we can hope for really is a loan deal or two taking us to the end of the season when the players concerned can review the situation and if necessary run back home to daddy! So for me, the safest thing is to expect nothing and see what gives. Meantime, as fans, we still have an one hell of an epic challenge to look forward to: can the Hughes premier management team polish a turd?!! Thing is, I think they probably can - and I can't wait to watch that story unfold. Anything else will be a bonus!
The only worrying thing is if Hughes doesn't get the money to spend Tony has obviously promised him, will he stick around until the end of the season?
Most deals happen on the last day. and just because they are last second deals doesn't mean they wont be good. No-one knew about Spurs getting Van der Vaart till the last second and look how good a signing that has been.
Reckon there's investment there, Hammer - and Hughes will stay. He's said as much and repeating his FFC walk out act won't be good for his rep.
A few things that we should take into account: TF said at the last transfer window that he did not have the time and it was a last minute rush but that would not be the case in January. We shall wait and see? Most of the Rumours that we read about are utter b#######, and these ITK's are to blame. All this 'done deal' stuff is attention seeking rubbish. MH keeps cards close to his chest thats why none of the ITK's knew about the AC Milan bloke, so expect someone off the radar. If Alex wants to come to QPR then good stuff as he is quality. If he doesn't and want's more money at PSG then let him go. Remember he is chelsea? MH did not join QPR as a PR stunt, he joined because our club is going places and has ambition that meets his own. I think we all need to take a step back and let the people at the club get on with it and as fans lets not get as deluded as these rumours.
