Big fan of Wijnaldum for all the reasons you stated. His ball retention is up there with the very best.

When he first signed felt like he held onto it much too long. Would almost wait to be closed down but last season or two has really developed and added more to his game and can still keep the ball in those areas but also move the ball on quicker now.

 

Its a big reason why we are attractive to players right now regardless of recent cups. Klopp simply improves them.

 

If Keita stays fit it is difficult to see Jones getting the game time he needs to further his development unless there is a thinning out of our MF options / injury crisis . Main hope is we have good runs in the domestic cups which will also give Elliott some chances too .

 

Im not too worried about the amount of gametime he's gonna get tbh ox and naby Anderton have that covered.

 

If he's good enough, he'll force his way in

 

Williams and Jones have been in the match day squad and on the bench since about Christmas. I think that will continue.

Williams will definitely get to rotate with Trent and I still think Jones will get a fair bit of game time this season

 

i am as quite a few promising young players end up in limbo at this stage ,where you are basically not playing , and it can lead to their development stalling .

Not really, cream rises. Trent forced his way in. As did Gerrard, Carra, Owen, Fowler, Macca, etc.

Gomez got played at RB due to Clyne being injured .
oh and originally came from Charlton where he had played for the first team & then was originally played by Rodgers at LB .

 

But was still a youngster that had to work hard and improve to get in the first team because Klopp wasn't paying him. You dismissed Trent as a case of 'last man standing', that was actually Gomez playing at RB.

He is going to make it, and he have advantage of being a local lad.

 

Not a advantage. There is no room for sentiment, you're either good enough or your not.

Being local will potentially give it more meaning giving him more heart and desire to succeed but it also means more pressure too.

 

The fact that he counts as both Club & Home grown does give him a slight advantage from the clubs perspective .

 

Yeah, fair point but that's only goes as far as the squad, not for getting in the team
