I'll go ahead and admit it, I didn't believe Curtis Davies was as good as he's turned out to be. When we first signed him, I thought to myself, "well, he's a decent larker and chips in with goals" but I've been starstruck by his leadership and Premier League quality. He wins 90% of his headers, he's great at dribbling, distribution, standing tackling and communication. You can see him constantly sorting out the defence, shouting out his orders to midfield and defenders, he always looks cool and composed and he's just taken me completely by surprise.

3 clean sheets out of 4 home games is a pure reflection of our side's composure and togetherness. I'm very impressed with us so far.

I was very happy with signing from Brum, a buddy of mine at work is a diehard Birmingham fan and has been saying for a while that he was far to good for the Championship.

He has everything a center back needs.

Completely agree, I've said this before, but you can see why Bruce was so keen to get him in, whilst most of us (myself included) thought he was no better than Hobbs.

I'm surprised by how well Faye has dealt with replacing Chester too.

There is clearly a lot of admiration for CD since I was about to launch a similar thread!!

When he signed, there wasn't much fuss, probably didn't raise an eyebrow..

Davies is calm & classy, also speaks well

I was a Hobbs fan but while he's a good Championship CB, I think Davies is a class up & this is why Bruce replaced Hobbs with him. Vey shrewd.

We're fortunate to have 3 PL class CBs

Totally agree, at first I thought he was a decent signing which will as more competition for places. But I have been majorly impressed and a good captain also.

There were several of us on here before the season started who said Curtis was a brilliant signing at an incredibly undervalued price, but he's exceeded even my expectations. SB knew exactly what he was doing...he's far better than Hobbs in every aspect of the game. He's as good as any English CH in the Prem right now...Kompany standard. If Hodgson doesnt give him a chance in the England squad, and replace Cleverley with Thudd, he deserves to be fired.

I wasn't sure either, thought we were trading Hobbs out and 2.5 mil out for someone who'd be no better......boy was I wrong, prob the best centre back we've ever had, I think he's playing better than Turner did in the PL, what a signing Brucey what a signing

I think he's been absolutely incredible. Despite the impact of Huddlestone, Brady etc, Davies has been player of the season so far easily.

This is a corking quote from that June thread!

Bruce has made some great signings. A couple ones havent worked out but the majority have been class.

I still dont quite understand what went on at Sunderland that the fans there think he was terrible. He has been nothing but a cracking coach for us. I doubt very much that all of a sudden he found his place in the world.

    I liked PLTs comments.

I don't see why people are so sure Davies is better than Hobbs?

Davies is a 'big name' but what he done at Birmingham? 1 player doesn't make a team I know but how come they're so **** if Davies is so brilliant? We put 8 goals past them last season with little difficulty. A few years ago we had a **** defence, signed Anthony Gerrard and suddenly had a good defence so it isn't impossible for one defender to make your defence good. I really don't think Davies is that special. If Bruce wants him fair enough, but surely Hobbs having been part of one of the league's best defences for the last 3 years in a row and eventually getting promoted, has proven himself as much as Davies who's had a very up-and-down career and is currently achieving nothing special in the league Hobbs just got promoted from.

Hobbs was better, I'd rather have kept him.
