Not been on here since the match on saturday so don't know if that has already been done (Apologies if it has)

Was anyone else impressed with Gordon on Saturday? Thought he had an excellent game - distribution was so much better than with Mignolet in goal (i.e. he didn't just HOOF everything and his throws to the wings were almost inch perfect!!)

Haven't seen their second goal back yet so not really sure if he could've done better (although Davies was completely unmarked!) but the rest of the game I though he was excellent...

He was, indifferent....just ok i guess...

    ......................

Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill wants to keep Scotland keeper Craig Gordon – but on a major pay-cut.

Gordon, 29, made his comeback* after a lengthy absence in the 2-2 draw with Bolton on Saturday.

His current deal runs out this summer and Celtic have been strongly linked with a move.

But they are only offering £650,000-a-year for a potential free agent.

Gordon earns around twice that much with the Black Cats, but O’Neill – who also has Keiren Westwood on the books – wants to offer him less to stay.

    I think that's fair Comm.

If he proves and re-establishes himself, we can up it.

Will see a lot about the lads mentality and desire to remain at the club, but he is a smashing keeper, fit & on form.

He was rooted for the equalizer, but watching it back, it was a quick ball in, defenders call for me that one.

Best reflex keeper I have EVER seen.

Absolutely spot on - he also commanded his box better than Mignolet does as well - Keep him on a pay cut and see what happens - fit and on form he's one of the best keepers I've seen

I agree mate, but I do believe Mig is going to be absolutely top drawer, keepers don't hit puberty till 28, haha.

I'd keep Gordon providing he takes the pay cut. Let Mig carry on the way he's going, sell Westy and bring in a young keeper or let our current ones develop.

He was okay Saturday maybe a mix of nerves and rustiness, I reckon he could have at least got a fist to the second one before Davies got to it but he didn't. For me it's a toss up between Mig and Gordon but, Mig gets it just for clean sheets.

If we are being ambitious (and I hope we all are) then why are we looking to cut the blokes wages. I think it is almost common ground that, when fit, Flash is a better keeper than the Mig. If so and if we are genuinely intent on trying to secure a top 10 finish (or better) for the next few seasons then why let the best keeper we have go to save a few quid. Often hear on Sky/MOTD that Jo Hart/ Brad Friedel [or whoever they are raving on about] are worth 10 points a season to their club - there is something in that and I reckon Flash is worth at least 5 points more than Mig - 5 points this season would put us 8th ish and earn us an extra £x million in prize money.

Don`t lets start throwing our best players out to save a bob or two - keep quality if we can. I would hope the medics can help throw some light on whether he`ll do a full season or not, if he can, keep him

We're looking to cut his wages as he's on a bonkers Keano contract, and never fit.

    It's not a cost-cutting move marra!

We're looking at Gillinghams young Italian keeper, supposedly he has monster potential. He has 4 assists this season! Mig? You reading!!

I thought he did well overall, and his distribution was better than Mig's i.e. not kicked long every time!!! I don't think many keepers would have saved the Davies goal either.

I read somewhere that he is currently on £2m a year, although I see that article says he is on twice the £650k we are offering him to stay (although how anyone would know this is beyond me!), which is a hefty pay cut. But we will see if he is motivated just by money or not I guess. Personally I think he is our best keeper and would like to keep him and MIg. Westwood can go for me as I can't see all 3 staying.

On a separate note I also read that Richardson is on £2.25m a year!! I can see where these rumours about him going to Reading came from.

I don't believe for a second Gordon is on 20k a week, he was a £9million Keano signing.

If Ringo is on £55k (allegedly), Flas will be on way more than £20k.

Well £2m a year (what I read) works out at £38.5k a week. and £1.3m (if the article is correct) is £25k a week and £650k is £12.5k a week.

And remember that for players on £2m a year they have just gained almost an extra £100K per year in take home pay, thanks to the Chancellor. If they are on £1.3m that is just under £65k per year extra, and even on £650K they will get an extra £32k per year or so in disposable income.

It makes you sick really. Even that lowest amount is about the annual salary for 3 people on the minimum wage.

I see it both ways mate.

I agree the salaries are outrageous, and the government have totally bollocked on this, but I do see how footballers earn extra, entertainment industry, a good club provides employment for others etc...
