Have both left the club by mutual consent. please log in to view this image http://www.swanseacity.net/page/Latest/0,,10354~2583306,00.html
Thanks & good luck to both of them , they both contributed to the team and in some small way to where we are now .
It's for the best really... Clearly getting them off the wage bill was more important that getting a transfer fee for them. As, in Beattie and Cotterill's cases especially, we probably could have got £250,000 or so for them each in this window.
Beatie has to go down as Jenkins biggest mistake at the helm, as said above, good luck to them they have played their part and helped the team, some good goals from both over the years, why we signed such an injury prone player for about 800k and 7k a week i will never know! They probably had a nice pay off from the club.
Oh, and I should thank them for the good work they gave to the Swans too! Beattie - his goals against Ipswich and Middlesbrough away last year will live long in the memory! And Butler had that fantastic game and scored 2 when we knocked Premiership Sheffield Utd out in a 3-0 away FA Cup win - cracking stuff!
Beattie never had a chance here , his 7 goals in 21 starts is much appreciated though , some absolute stunners amongst his goals also . Goodluck to both
Sunderland fan in peace. Butler was he the ex sunderland player. Looked a world beater as a kid but never made it at the top flight. Lost touch with his career if it is.
Although I wish them well in the future have to say that they have been paid well by the club for having played little or no part in the team this season. Unfortunately the Butler contract extension was more out of sentiment than anything else and it only took Brendan a short time to realise that Tommy was never good enough for the premier league once he returned from injury.
Washy,Wikipedia confirms that he played for Sunderland,1998-2004,making 31 appearances. He moved to Dunfermline in 2004.
Not sure about Beattie's chances, Breezy, as he always seemed to be injured so I don't think it was down to the Club. Never a Prem standard player in a million years though. But have to say his goal at Ipswich was my favourite last season. Butler has looked out of his depth for a few seasons. Good luck to both of them.
I liked Tommy Butler, when at his best with us, but could never take to Beattie, he must go down on record as the most expensive mistake ever, at Swansea city! Wish them all the best where ever they end up, will Beattie be taking his mobile bed with him........
Why let them go now .. Good question, thinking out loud.... If they stay they consume resources, they have to train etc, they also consume a slot on the 25 man squad at the end of Jan. Also Beattie counts as a foreign player. With them gone as well as Cotterill I presume we have some slots free on the squad that will allow us to add free agents if we need to for cover after January.
Always liked Tom Butler, but he was never going to get a game in the PL. Best let him and Beattie go now as they can find new clubs (See Millwall are supposed to be after Beattie) won't be a wage drain just to play reserve football. I thank them both for there service to the club and wish them all the best for the future.
With Sig & McEachran joining Gower , Allen , Britton , Agustien & Dobbie in the 3 positions shared in mid midfield I believe as soon as The McEachran deal was a for sure , Buck made a conscious decision to Wait till next season for Bodde to make his comeback when Sig & McEachran leave
