Is there anything wrong with a leading union figure living in a council house?

Bob Crow: 'I have no moral duty' to move out of council house despite receiving six-figure salary as RMT boss

The RMT general secretary said he was being victimised for living in a council property and it would be unfair on his family to move them out of it

Bob Crow has defended living in a council house despite earning £145,000 annually.

Better having someone who can afford to pay the rent living in a council house than someone on the dole getting their rent paid for them. That's not to say that unemployed people shouldn't be allowed council houses - but earning a living shouldn't be a barrier.

I quite agree but surely there has to be a limit? Don't get me wrong I don't advocate a system where someone gets promoted and his earnings got from 17k to 20k and the Council come round and kick him out but £145k? Really?

To be honest I'm just surprised he hasn't bought a house and sub-letted the council property. You know what these ****s are like.

<laugh> Indeed. I actually think he'd probably love to live soemwhere else but is deliberately staying put just to piss everybody off. I'm not anti union - they've done a hell of a lot for employee rights over the last century or so and i suspect that pretty much everyone curretntly in gainful employment still benefits from some of their actions through history but the likes of Mr Crowe really do not help their case. That's no excuse to denounce all the rest of them who actually still do decent jobs as nose on the trough loony lefties of course.

Council houses should be there to provide affordable accomodation for low-paid workers, the elderly and the disabled not a cheap option for the well-off. Non-workers should get basic accomodation i.e. hostels.

Social housing should be available to everyone, land ownership should be abolished and nobody should receive any compensation when its all taken into public ownership!

So lets get this straight then . Wee Jimmy Blogs is working and paying his cooncil hoos rent . All of a suddem in come the new Tory government and wee Jimmy and half a million of his public sector colleagues get their jotters .

So as he is not in gainful employment wee Jimbo gets papped out of his cooncil supplied dwelling and sent to live in a hostel .

****ing genius and probably right up there in the next Tory manifesto .

Of course that would be wrong but then so is giving housing to feckless people ahead of those who work but cannot afford a place.
