Sunderland have failed with a bid for Steven Fletcher, and have now turned to Fernando Cavenaghi. Talks are not at an advanced stage, though. (Metro) http://www.expressandstar.com/sport...012/07/31/wolves-reject-10m-bid-for-fletcher/
I suspect that the first part might be right in that Wolves have knocked back our first bid for Fletcher as they are holding out for as much as they can get but I would think that the second part is nothing but guess work.
We could go for Arshavin, Berbatov, Defoe, Dempsey, but to start paying £10 m plus MON has to get it right on a 20 goal a season striker.
This story is also now in the echo........ SUNDERLAND’S £10million bid for Wolves striker Steven Fletcher has been rejected by the Championship club. The Black Cats made a seven-figure offer for the 25-year-old late last week and Wolves took their time in considering the bid for their top scorer from the last two seasons. But Wolves are understood to have now turned down the offer and remain determined to keep hold of Fletcher unless they receive a much-improved fee. Sunderland were always braced for a long battle to land Fletcher and the Wearsiders are not thought to have ditched their interest in the former Burnley and Hibs frontman. Stoke, Fulham and Aston Villa have also made enquiries for Fletcher, who notched 12 league goals for the top flight’s basement boys last season
Comm, that local rag as you call it is European wide, bigger than most UK dailys, and printed in the language of the country.
