Something I noticed quite a while ago, is everytime we defend a corner, we bring everyone back, completely eliminating the chance of a break. We just clear it back to their players and we're under pressure again. I reckon we could get a few goals by leaving some one like Gyan up.
Been saying this for 3 seasons now. We were 2-0 up against somebody last season with 10 mins to go and still did it. I can understand the routine in training over and over again but for gods sake have a bit flexibility depending on the score
Said he would consider it. The next game we had a man on the halfway line, my mate was claiming to be SAFC manager. Bruce must not of seen the benefit tho as we are back to our old way's. It's not even just about the counter attack, putting a man at half way mean's 2 of their player's have to drop back. Surely it's better to have them there than in your penaly area.
This has been done since Peter Reid was here, and it bloody well boils my piss...I've always been from the school of thought that suggests the best form of defence is attack...And this doesn't fit in with that..
There surely is a reason behind it, but I mean losing Gyan or Sess in the box won't affect our defending of the corner.
Well you never see Man U, Chelsea or Arsenal putting everyone back in the box, as they always have an outlet for a quick break..
If you leave Sess and Gyan up field that means the attacking team has to leave 3-4 players back, they cant just leave 1-2 back and pile everyone else into the box, which means there is less players in the box to defend against, so we dont need Sess and Gyan back. And you would think Bruce and Keane would realise the potential of a quick break, after playing with Schmeichal and his long throw outs from corners for years.
When I ran a kids team we always had 2 players on the half way line. This was 7 a side mind. It automatically took 3 of their players back. If Bruce put all our player in the box it only invites the other team to come and have a go. If we put 3 players outside the box it would automatically take 4 of their players out. It's crazy us not doing this because we now have raw paces in the side.
Whole hearted agree hate that tactic. Leave sess on half way line to chase a punt I say. What good is he at defending crosses?
