Just been looking through nufc.com at players who only have a year left on their contract.

Obviously Barton and Enrique, if they don't leave or sign new contracts will let them run down in a final season for us.

I was just wondering whether this would effect their performances next season. My reasoning being that if they want a big move at the end of next season or to be offered more money from NUFC, then they could have the season of their lives this season. They will both want to attract even more positive attention from big clubs.

Noticeably players like Guthrie, Lovenkrands and Shola (I hope) could also be fighting for new contracts at the club come the end of the season and this could mean they will have to put everything into their performances and could do really well.

I hope so anyway, or is it just wishful thinking?

No wishful thinking when it comes to Shola! He raises his game at two times; when we play Sunderland and when his contract is nearly up

Depends, I think the players that expect to move somewhere bigger (Barton & Enrique, I mean just look at Enriques performance after Christmas, poor bar a few games against the big teams) will be happy to just play **** lol. In their eyes why should they try hard and risk injury if a new contract is coming up?

I'd like to think Guthrie and lovenkrands would try hard (albeit Loven does anyway, he's just crap lol), as they wouldn't automatically get into another prem team.
Shola won't bust a gut. Simple as that.

I personally want to move on from Jose and Barton. I know they are good players in their own right but surely them not signing a contract on the table (Jose) and the other using Twatter as a tool (Barton) means they are only thinking of one thing... THEMSELVES.

Come on lads we are a team in unity and the club is far more important than any player...

He probably deserves it, so many managers and players have come and gone since he's been here. Yet somehow he survived, year after year. Don't know how he did it! Also he has to get a testimonial at Newcastle!

  11. Jose maybe, but that's unfair on Barton. Yes he has a big mouth, but he's a massive part of the team, and was definitely our player of the season. If he only cared about himself he wouldn't put his 100% in every single game.

He connected with the fans extremely well and when he kissed his badge, he meant it. He wants to stay at the Toon and i believe he loves it here, but i also think that just because he loves the toon and wants to stay, doesn't mean he should have to sign any deal that Ashley shoves under his nose and agree to any term the club set, he should be able to get a good contract, but fat Ashley obviously doesn't like him.

I hope we have a new owner in the next year or so, one that knows a thing about football, so Barton gets the contract he deserves.
