Trials for concussion substitutes are set to begin in English football next season despite authorities aiming to implement them from January.

    Thoughts on this?

Like the idea that to prevent abuse that the opposition team will be allowed to make a free sub at the same time.

Good Idea of course, but would expect some possible 'gaming' of the rule at some crucial point in a game.

"If it's worked in rugby, then why can't it work in football?"

Because rugby players aren't pussies that feign injury every time they're touched.

the French used to make clear tactical front row subs back in the 80's by being "injured"
plus not sure a PL footballer has ever carried a pouch of pretend blood on the pitch and then have a doctor nick him with a razor to produce real blood just to make a blood sub but whatever

in other words Rugby players have been gaming the system for years same as all elite sportsmen .

Not as much since it went pro mate, with games scrutinised as much as they are today. Harsher penalties in rugby if you're busted though.

Footballers week after week, do their best to con refs for any advantage, and it's become the norm. Pisses me off. <grr>

    from Wiki
An investigation by the European Rugby Cup and the Rugby Football Union revealed that blood injuries had also been faked by Harlequins to enable tactical substitutions on four previous occasions. These findings resulted in a 12-month ban for Williams (reduced to four months on appeal[2]), a three-year ban for former director of rugby Dean Richards and a two-year ban for physiotherapist Steph Brennan, as well as a £260,000 fine for the club.[3][4] Club chairman Charles Jillings subsequently tendered his resignation,[5] while club doctor Wendy Chapman was suspended by the General Medical Council pending a disciplinary panel hearing into her cutting of Williams' lip to hide his use of the blood capsule

yes they did it at the time of the game it was picked up later as people noticed the wink by Williams as he left the pitch and then the whole tactical sub routine came under scrutiny .
