Keep Trent at RB and have an RCM who can help cover the ground and space when Trent moves central. Konate will have too much to do by himself I feel . I think Gvardiol or Ndicka would be good LB option if the plan is to keep the LB back and be more defensive. However, we did Robbo do that but he also ventured forward quite a bit vs Leeds. So perhaps a purely defensive LB is not what Klopp is after.
why waste a "good CM" playing RB/RCM. I agree theres way too much for konate to do on his own unless both trent and fabinho sit and do not move forward ahead of the ball. If they lash on, lose the ball then theres miles and miles of gaps. the pep system is different. It has a CB in effect at LB so he has been asking the RB to play midfield and dropped walker as he has not got the brains. The formation city play is Stones aknji Dias Aki Rodri gundogan This in possession (70% of the time) becomes Akniji Dias Ake Stones Rodri And the 5 attacker in front like an old WM formation. LFc simply don't sit and won't sit. the entire 5 years is push on, get high, compress the pitch and win the ball back. We might tippy tappy around the back with this Konate.............................. VVD............................ Robbo ...............Trent...............................Fabinho but just watch what happens next, the ball goes forward and they all go up. there'll be runs made and gaps open up cos we simply will not sit in. As you said Robertson was overlapping on v leeds. Trent was running on as well. I am not saying "never" but they have to have the brains that if say robertson runs on then someone slots back, or trent goes on, handles it then makes a run in behind that henderson covers that no 6/rb slot. they won't. just won't happen. Easier to buy a RB and be done with it and keep this simple.
Robertson sat in against Leeds, he went forward maybe once or twice, but then trent sat in at right back. Fabinho never moved from in front of the defence the entire match, trent stood next to him then picked his moment to move forward. I said at the time it's hard to judge just on one match, but it was definitely different from the rest of the season.
we were camped for long periods with vvd half way into thier half as well. so its pretty hard bet away from the defenders when they are less than 40 yards from opposition goal.
Leeds were camped in thier own half for much of the game, our two cbs were well into the opponents half as last line.
Well surely that's what we want? Surely they couldnt get out due to the improvement in the system? Or was it the usual, we only looked good because Leeds where ****e?
Whilst this is a work in progress and will take time for it be fully baked into the players to the point where it becomes natural and instinctive, my concern is that we only ever really look comfortable once we get that first goal. Vs Leeds, we were awful up until the first goal and then we settled and looked better.
well, when the press is so good that a better side than leeds can't get out, absolutely! I'd contend leeds always intended to sit in and so will forest as they play 5 at the back. we've a funny old test coming with west ham, moyes can be very negative too if he thinks a point would be great. If west ham are more aggressive it'll be a good test.
thats confidence you you though. I was thinking at 2-1 we'd fall apart but we scored quickly and stopped the rot. The fact is we did play in front of leeds and played quite safe back and forth without really going at them until they coughed one up. its all about confidence. Exactly the same as against palace, we'd be there shuffling back and forth against their 11 men back still cos they were not about to cough one up. With all the forwards back and the weight off jota, gakpo, nunez and salah's shoulders you'd hope we'd be a little freer at home v forest and then take that away in the next game. TBH 12 months ago if you handed me that last 8 games i'd expect 8 wins. Right now we have a lot of players back fitter and we are not quite as struggling as we were so that and the fixtures we have should help them end the seasons well and focus on pushing on next season the last thing we need is a bad end to season and heaps of pressure all summer.
Yep which is why it's crucial to get a few wins under the belt now and build that momentum. The players need to get back to believing.
you have to think. what if that free header Leeds had off the free kick flew in and it was 0-1 leeds go full bore no risk, does it end 6-1? it's all good. 6-1, got the lead and a quick breakaway second and Leeds got done just like man uid did by opening the spaces we like. we have to break these teams down
You can't think like that though. A few years ago kompany hits a rocket to score against keicester never done it before, never done it again. But they still won the league because of that goal. Leeds was just one game, but I don't understand why your so adamant to dismiss a really good performance.
maybe I am just dreading the other shoe dropping. I dunno. I've been sat just watching us tap it about not doing anything really like thenfirst 30mins at Leeds and seeing us throw one in time and again and now just expecting it. the goals are more a relief than enjoyment. what would be nice today is not a 5-0 but just a competent game where we score and cruise it without errors. I'll take the 5-0 mind.
