A plane carrying a Brazilian team to the South American equivalent of the Europa League final has crashed in Colombia. Horrific crash scenes in a very difficult area to reach, very few survivors. A real tragedy...
A terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to the families of all the victims. As regards the Brazilian team, it reinforces the need for the sometimes neglected travel policy of travelling in different vehicles/vessels. But how practical is that for a football team?
How sad. RIP. Here's a poignant photo and video of the Chapecoense FC players on that flight just before takeoff. The video is the team celebrating reaching the final of the Copa Sudamericana just five days ago. The second video is of one of their players' Alan Ruschel. He is one of the few survivors. please log in to view this image
Atlético Nacional the side that they were going to play in the final have requested that the Copa Sudamericana title is awarded to Chapecoense.
Wow. I can't say anything other than RIP to all of the 76. Plus my thoughts are with all family & friends, but in particular to the few survivors. They will need all the help there is to come to terms with this horror.
Nines, your post clearly highlights how genuinely "fragile" is Human Life. These players, their families and of course their fans were most probalby esctatic at reaching the Cup Final. One horrific incident and their world is turned upside down. Such events allow you to get a genuine perspective on what is important in "Life" - and it is the very simple things. Carpe diem.
Before this thread is hijacked and ruined by Windom, may I say RIP and God bless the survivors and the families of those affected.
What a terrible tragedy and loss of life RIP - other teams have also offered to loan out players to the club for free next season so they can continue to compete. "Organisers say Atletico Nacional has asked for Chapecoense to be awarded the cup. Brazilian clubs have offered to loan players to them for free for the next year." http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-38140981
Truly tragic. May the relatives, survivors, supporters and everyone associated with the club get strength from humanity. R.I.P.
Watching the jubilant scenes in the dressing room following the semi final win to set up the game they were en route to is really gut wrenching.
I heard Ronaldo is donating 3m euros to help the families. I am the first to criticise him for being so vain but on this occasion, he has my Respect. Fair play to him.
RIP indeed. Can you imagine the relief but survivor guilt those who survived will feel. Absolute tragedy.
