Our very own Captain Colo has been called up for Argentina (about time, better than all of their other CB's), however the friendly will take place in Frankfurt 3 days before the season opener to Spurs. Pleased for Colo he deserves every bit of recognition he gets but the timing of it is just ridiculous!

A bit stupid having a friendly just before the new season starts.

Congrats indeed – our captain is not just one of the best central defenders in the PL, but one of the best in the world. Wouldn't swap him for Kompany plus cash.

ALSO: Colo is the kind of devoted, intelligent pro who would probably elect to duck out of this kind of meaningless international duty if he felt it would benefit NUFC.

But he certainly deserves the recognition and I just thank DL and MA for getting him that contract. For me the only genuinely irreplaceable player in the squad...

I too am pleased that he ha been given the recognition he deserves, but it is not just Colo
Who is likely to be called on to play in friendly games that close to the opener with the Spuds.

Also likely to have call-ups are

Krul Cabaye, DeBuchy, yes we will have signed him by then! And Tiote who would travel to Russia lol

We can only hope that all return in one piece, seems a bit reckless so near the start of the season.

    very pleased for Colo.
Just goes to show that players can get international recognition whilst playing for us.
Happy to note as well that HBA is in Deschamp's first Frence squad.

Nice to see that HBA is included in the French squad - as ACS rightly points out
Surely this means that there are no repercussions for him following the disciplinary hearing after the issues at Euro 2012.
Wise move on behalf of Deschamps imo to draw a line in the sand.
To good a player to be out of favour, but does need to be managed well, perhaps Deschamps should get on the
Phone to AP for some tips.

Been pondering when this would happen since Maradonna called up Jonas and played him at left-back constantly... About time I think, would love to see Colo and a few of our other players at the next World Cup!

I'm delighted regardless to be honest, outside of injury prone MO I can't remember many of our players getting crocked on international duty so I'd rather have players of that standard who do have to go rather than having naff players we keep all season. Always like to see Newcastle players called up, shows the quality of our team.

Each to their own I suppose, but unless they are English I'm n ot interested in their countries fortunes. I just look at it cold and brutal, its better for Newcastle if Colo doesn't go. Yes there is the prestige to the club but its far outweighed by the negatives. And there are plenty 3 days before our first game!
