I'm beginning to think our LB problem is solved with this lad's performance. I had my reservations about him as a midfield player but today--when Lennon shoved a ball past him and went for it he showed real pace to take the ball away. Good lad!

We need a left back asap imo. Nothing against Jack.

Colback is starting to grow on me & I think he could be our Left back this season. all depends on Cissokho because if he doesn't come then I think we may just Colback there.

I think the left back thing may be why he's not signing! He wants to play in midfield (only speculation of course). He has never let us down at LB. Hope he stays

I'll second that. Jack is a club man and hopefully he will stay and see the sense in becoming a LB. England place up for grabs in that position soon and a good season to improve his game and he could take off from there.

Unfortunately that will go to Leighton Baines then Ryan Bertrand/Luke Shaw

Just because a cm can do a job at full back doesn't mean that we should abandon plans for a natural left back. I want two for every position because it's sensible, if the 2nd fullback has to be Jack then fine. I can live with losing him for nowt but we still need a left back asap imo.

This. Jack does a cracking job filling in, but we need a natural Left back. Same goes with Gards on the other side.

And Rose. Theys no way Colback will become an England leftback! He does a canny enough job there but thats about as far as it goes. Hes a midfielder!

He's very good at lb, defensively, and he's okay to play there occasionally, but we need a proper lb who will bomb forward and overlap to help Giaccherini

Same goes for rb, but Colback is a much better lb than Gardner is rb. Rb should be ultimate priority

Got to disagree, jack is ok at filling in same as Gardner is ok at filling, must have 2 authentic fullbacks as priority, would be very disappointed if we started the season with Jack as fullback.

I'll be gutted. I went into this window assuming the club would recognise the needs of the squad and sign two left backs and two right backs. We've had bad luck so fair do's but starting the season with a cm in a fullback position would be an absolute disaster. We've got plenty of talented inside forwards but if there's no quality overlap that only a seasoned fullback/wingback can bring, then our width is shot to death and limits our attacking capabilities significantly imo.

I think the only chance Jack has to make it as a good premier league footballer is at fullback. He doesn't offer enough offensively or defensively to play centre midfield IMO.

Saying that, we desperately need to sign at least 1 left back and 1 right back this window.

I disagree fella. I think he'll make premiership midfielder, The lad has years of development in him before he peaks. I remember before he and Jordan broke into the first team set up everyone said Jack was the better prospect. Hendo is at liverpool now. Development is like a child growing, people develop at different speeds, they slow, speed up and spurt<laugh> at different times. I think it's daft to write him off as a prem midfielder so early in his career, especially as he's as adequate as Vaughan, who has well and truly peaked in his career.

The likes of Fowler and Owen put the bulk of their development in early whereas your Scott Parker's and Kevin Phillips' did most of their development much later.

Danny Rose is ahead of Bertrand in my eyes. Don't know Shaw.

Decent argument, but we can agree to disagree on this one.
