I was reading the local rag last night and on the back page was a spread about Coates, Pulis and transfers. In a nut shell; TP has full control over every transfer - both in and out. The significance of staying up and the win against Reading probably took us away from any major threat. Coates did question the Crouch deal but TP had the final say. So in conclusion; TP has no excuses about outside interference in his transfer policy and is 1005 responsible for every success and failure. The club were getting itchy about the prospects of a dog fight. The Crouch deal was a debatable one at all levels. I did question the Crouch deal because 10 million into a player which duplicated the options of KJ and was looking at the end of his career with no real sell on value was not good business. It was very clear that we needed other options and a different type of striker in which we also picked up Jerome - from relegated Brum with a very poor goal to game ratio. Between them we invested approx 15 million and probably 80k a week, whcih reflects the fact that a Chairman would question the business accumen behind the decission.
Quote: Coates did question the Crouch deal but TP had the final say. On your head be it Tony" I can hear the chairman saying. Is Mr Coates getting a bit fidgety? £10-£12m is a lot of money for Mr Coates to shell out. The question is, has Crouch proved himself worthy of such an outlay? Watch this space. Today a fidgety chairman, tomorrow a Manager looking for a club?
Crouch scored 15 goals last season, in a side managed by TP that is the equivalent of Rooney scoring 40, so IMO yes he has justified his price. If we played more positive football crouch would get a lot more but we have a **** manager who doesnt have a clue. Pulis out
I dont think you can question whether Crouch has returned on his fee, its whether the manager is getting the best value for money out of him now. I think Crouch is quality, but its whether TP can maximise him and the other strikers in the team?
If he was as good as he should be he would have maximised the output of every player he has bought. He is good at spotting talent but once he has it, he hasn`t a clue what to do with-it. His man management skills are woefully lacking.
What talent has he spotted, seriously. He has bought some talented players, but no unknown player and then transformed. Shawcross was talented but is now a hoofer, he could and shouuld have been another Rio!! Pulis's big prolem is that he has run out of useless Sunderland players to sign.
When I read it I just smiled, cried then tried to kick the cat. I missed cos we ain't got a cat! I can not believe that is the situation at S.C.F.C. Crouch? SURE he justified that money we paid and some, without his goals we would be down already re last season. Is it NO WONDER we see such **** players? Tuncay gone, Kitson, gone, Lawrence gone, Pennant????? WTF has he done that he can not get ahead of Shotton and Kightly on the right wing? SOD IT! we ARE still paying Pennant I assume. Pulis OUT at the end of the season.
